On budget.. get the reasonable performance once.. no budget limit.. get the best there is to prevent future upgrade which will lose more $$

e. I am posting with this 3 photos that I took recently, no touchup done, appreciate your comments and advice?

Thank you all very much.

just a general feedback which i can't remember which famous pro photographer once said it...

the comment is "Get closer." - this will help remove unwanted and distracting elements from your main subject (e.g., too much green leaves around the lizard, the metal bars/frame left of dog & the white tile? plastic? left of the rooster)

also focus on the eyes and if possible shoot when they are looking into your lens...erm for the rooster maybe the composition of having that backside facing the viewer not very pleasing unless it's done for a specific reason...

hope this helps and welcome to the D300 thread!

:)

Thank you very much for your comments, will take note of that.

Thank you again

:)

You can do that with lenses, but with DSLR, there is always a better one 2-3 years down the road, so don't blow your bucks on the best one. It's relevant advice with film bodies but not for DSLRs. At least not yet..

Yup.. I totally agree. Body wise.. not that important.. whereas lens is one that can invest in.. cos lens will never be obselete. Though a camera body can also be used for sometime.. but there is always a better one out there in the future.

Some shots with the D300 and 18-200mm VR Combo. Not the best of lens, but a very flexible walkaround lens due to it's telezoom range.

i wonder how this shot will look with Active D-lighting on? :)

forgot to ask... from where did you take this shot? very nice view!

If I guess correctly.. is the new asia bar (or equinox).. 72 floor at the stamford hotel..

can anyone verify please?

as far as i know, it should show r13 or 12. so it depends much on your file setting and the maximum card writting speed. I using Jpeg Fine, Large , ISO1600, high ISO noise reduction on, manage to shoot up to about 35 frame before the buffer full and the frame fate slowed down.

Shot at 18mm. I'm still using my old D50 kit lens sometimes. :bsmilie:

D300 users: Do you find the LCD misleading sometimes? The saturation and contrast is almost twice when compared to what i see on my laptops. Anybody found in this situation too?

so far, the recommendation has been to down the brightness to -2.

i'm using -1 for some compensation when trying to review quicktakes outdoors. :D

try it out and hope it helps u.

Set your LCD brightness to -2. Is your laptop monitor calibrated. I find my D300's LCD pretty accurate with the brightness set to -2.

Yes.. I also agree.. -2 is the best. Though outdoor in strong sunlight.. might want to put to -1.

I used LCD -1 brightness. However, there were a few shots that were quite off. As in, the camera's LCD shows really nice and warm colours, but when i uploaded it on my laptop, it looks way too cool. Unless i set my laptop's screen to 'gamma correction', it'll suit the camera's LCD. I went to test whether this picture is truly warm or cool on my sister's laptop, and it was cool. Kinda misleading :dunno:
Ok i'm not trying to be fussy, but it'll be good to rectify this 'problem'.
