some great shots of the camera's performance :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I think the LCD is superb, but it depends on what brightness your put. there was once, i was shooting under the sun, so i adjust the brightness to +3, and the photos are so bright in the LCD, and end up under exposing.

well, it also depends on your computer screen, on a Mac and on a Sony Vaio, it looks pretty different too.

A few more, on Color: Vivid, WB: Auto, Lens: 70-200VR

Questoin on buffer:

If i didn't read the manual wrongly, it says i can get a buffer of 100shots..i know can take 100 shots continuous...to do so basically must turn almost everything off, and set the picture quality lower...which i did...i think i did manage to get a 100 shots continuous...but just wanna check with you guys, wads the max. buffer you can get for your cam..?my goes to about 46, max that i can get...that should be it rite..?

Firstly to answer your qn, yes, max is 100. also depends on what card you are using, i use the Sandisk ExtremeIII, it does go up to 100.

But, i see no point in doing it at all, other than doing a test or self-satisfaction... there is no practical use... im sure you wont shoot up to 100 frames in ANY occasion. it takes time to delete those photos add a hundred to your shutter count.

hmmm...I am also using Sandisk ExtremeIII but my buffer is only max at 46

wonderful iso 3200 performance

first - WOW! tks for sharing your wonderfully captured beautiful shots of butterflies and moths! was it at f2.8? did you use any close-up filters?

also tks for sharing your experience with others about the buffer issue

do keep contributing!!!

i read at quite a few places that lowering it down to -1 brightness for the LCD screen is helpful :)

wonderful iso 3200 performance

yep! although not as great ason a D3 but still wonderful and if you convert iso3200 into b&w i think it would look really great

i understood why people will still accept more noise in higher iso when it's well controlled to give you a very nice grainy feel when i saw a D3 shot at iso25600 but converted to b&w - although grainy, they were well defined and the final result was a fantastice grainy b&w shot!

beautiful!

so i think D300 even at iso6400 in b&w you'll get really wonderful fine-grained picture!

i m using extreme IV...yeah i know its just for self satisfaction, but just wanted to check if there is anything wrong with my buffer ma, cause if its 100 shots buffer for that setup and i only get 46, doesn't it mean that for the higher quality pictures, my buffer will also be less than what i should have?

i'm can't remember where i read it online but Extreme IV is known to perform less than Extreme III - you may want to google and find more about it...

it may be the card issue not the D300...

Thanks for the praise.

No close up filters/tubes, just a lens and camera. they are not at 2.8, i put Shutter priority, so it depends, mainly about F5-6.

Just crop the pictures, and i am very satisfied with the sharpness of the lens, and the colors D300 can produce.

can i confirm that your buffer(ie. when you half press your shutter) you get r99?

Hi

I am still pretty new to this since I last left photography many many years ago.

Just a quick question (I did not read through this thread, so I am not sure whether someone might have asked the question I am posting now, my apologiese):

a. What is the best macro lens to use with the D300 whether it be manual focus or auto focus?

b. What is the best telephoto lens to use?

c. In terms of tripod, what should be a reasonable piece to purchase, together with recommended head?

d. I am contemplating on a purchase of SB800, would that be a good flash or I just go for the SB600 instead.

e. I am posting with this 3 photos that I took recently, no touchup done, appreciate your comments and advice?

a. depends on your budget and shooting style. there is no best unless you have a bottomless wallet.

b. same as a.

c. depends on your budget. get a carbon fibre tripod if you can afford it.

d. if you're not using wireless setup, SB600 should be sufficient.

Thanks for the reply, what then for a reasonable budget should my lens be, not bottomless pit though.

Any comments on my photos?!

Thanks

 ;)

Reasonable budget depends on what u are willing to part with and what u need. The worse is you get the lens just because ppl say its good. Not becos u need it to cover your photography interest.

18-200mm is already a very good lens and cover quite a bit of range already. So go with what u need.. not what others say. When u identify ur needs... then look at the lens review to make the decision and buy.

On budget.. get the reasonable performance once.. no budget limit.. get the best there is to prevent future upgrade which will lose more $$

Thank you very much for your advice. Willl come back and asked more once I know where I am going. Better still, meet up with some of you all and talk about it. How about that.

Thanks again

 :)
