Kudos, You set the bar high for a kit lens.

17-55mm f2.8?
Heheh, you lend me one for my next concert shoot lah. :D
I think it this lens will sharpen the details, especially at the edges.

Also, the High ISO NR was set to High. So if you manage to view the original size images, it will look like a smart blur filter was used on the image.

The stage lighting and design helped a lot for the pictures.

As for which D2X mode? er... I dunno, I never fiddle with that, so it's sort of in the default setting.
I dun even bother with the aperture settings in most shoots, either biggest possible or the standard F8, much less the D2X mode.

The jeff chang shots were great. Did you use any fill in flash and just strictly with the kit lens?

No flash was used because
1) Flash photography is not allowed for concert shoots.
2) Stage lighting was sufficient to shoot with ISO ranging from 800 to 3200.

Yes, it was just with the D70 kit lens. There wasn't any time to switch lenses. I was busy running around in the media cage taking photos.

Wow wow ISO 3200 looks so good! Any Noise reduction software used?

It's really fantastic!!!

haha if someone lend me a 17-55mm f2.8 then i lend you one loh...

i c maybe next time set the High ISO NR to low?

the D2X modes can be downloaded form Nikon websites and then load into your D300 - i read that Mode I is good for people shots and nice for skin tone... maybe you can try it next time :)

but still very nice shots leh bro!!! tok-kong

I had set the in-built High ISO NR (Noise Reduction) setting to HIGH.

i do wonder though how software like NoiseNinja or NeatImage will reduce the noise in your shots as compared to to in-camera one...

D300

Firstly, I love its feel with MBD10. Metal feel, and very very solid..
Focus is very sharp, I dont feel a difference between D2x and D300.
8Fps, like machine gun... da da da da da da da da
Color, i like the neutral setting for the colors, indeed very neutral. provide huge room for post editing. Even without tuning the colors, i am perfect okay with it.
WB, very accurate too, even in auto.

there are also not so goods
LV is nearly useless for me..
high ISO can be improved, i see a significant different between 200 and 400, NR off

some photos with colors set to neutral, no editing, just compress. D300+ MB D10 + AFS 17-55 F2.8

damnnn... these photos dont look like they were concert snaps, more like promo-shots or directed-shots with proper lighting et all for a jeff change concert advertisement instead. very nice work with the d300 and d70 kit-lens (which I love too btw)

When the picture control is set to Neutral (NL), i see the pics turn out pretty much similar to standard (SD)- just a tad more saturated on the camera's LCD display. However the difference is quite huge when downloaded and viewed on a PC. The NL one actually looks much bluer than the SD/cam's LCD.
I find that the D300's LCD colours are not very faithful. So far i think D70, D80, D200 all have very colour faithful displays. It's the only gripe about this camera. other than that, the LCD also gives a false sense of sharpness. A slightly blurred image still appears very sharp on the cam LCD but when viewed on PC, the blur is obvious. I don't mind if the LCD type is similar to that of D200.

The D300 does less sharpening than the D200... and I shared previously on this post the experience as I moved from the D200 to D300. Besides, the more megapixels there is... the more flaws are also going to show. So... one of the areas is to increase the sharpening on the camera... and you may like to increase the saturation and contrast as well. The D300 by default will do less in-camera processing, and that is up to us to do the adjustment, or to adjust it on the computer during the post-processing phase.

what setting did you set ofr LCD birghtnes?

i read some where that it's advisable to put it at -1 so as not to be fooled...
