Nice! #1! ;)
Am I the only one that sees your #4 whole cityscape tilted to the left? Other than that, it's a pretty good capture.

Finally just managed to get to check in.

Outing report

  • Reached MBS just after 5, no queue, no problem with tripod, even if it was slung across my chest. Had advised the group going up to keep their kit small, restrict it to a camera + lens, tripod, and filters. But seems some people were able to get through with more, even saw someone shooting next to us with a Canon 70-200 L white telephoto zoom! So you can easily get away with quite a bit.
  • Afraid weather may not be working for us, as it was cloudy, but later on, we managed to get good pictures. Won't say it's the most ideal, but yeah, quite okay.
  • Thought would have more space to move around up at the Skypark, but the 2nd tier was being renovated for that felon chef, so we were quite cramped to a small corner.
  • Being early really pays homage to the adage, "Early bird gets the worm". For several of us who came earlier to the Skypark, we had good opportunities to capture God's Rays ... wonderful, but still not the best I feel (my pics I mean). Also, those who came at 6 had to queue up, whereas some who were a few minutes earlier, walked in to the ticketing counter very easily.
  • Too bad I didn't shoot enough, particularly night shoots as had to volunteer my tripod for a member who was tripod-less, fearing the security-type people not letting tripods through. Nonetheless, no excuse for myself not to shoot any. Most were handheld and as such, all had shakes. Nvm, will go up and shoot again :)
  • Had Adrian (korpidp3k) who was definitely a good and patient guide and about time we promote him to senior :) Also, hoped that the participants to this group or even outing, had picked up something more from before the event. So, thank you very much for taking the effort to turn. For those who couldn't make, sorry you couldn't join us, but there are other priorities in life, so don't worry, it's not like the Skypark will be closed soon. You'll have opportunities to shoot either by yourself, or with a group soon.
  • During dinner @ Marina Square's food court, had the opportunity to share our gear and skills (I hope) with the rest and hopefully, those who are using freebie-tripods will consider getting a more solid one to support your expensive investment. And also picked up the main reason why we are organizing such outings - to share and give back what we had learned from other seniors and gurus.
  • Finally, like to put on record, my gratitude and thanks to Jacob, coolthought, estherfu, and korpidp3k! Couldn't pull off this outing which was separated into 2 groups without you all!
That's all.

Cheers!

PS: Pictures to follow. And apologies for being long winded. Oh yeah, Jacob, me not big boss! Just big ... hehehee!

God's Rays!

I have to apologize for not being to talk to every one of you, especially those in group 2. My sincerest apologies. Also as age catches up, tend to forget names more easily. Hehehe. Please help to put the nicks/names to the persons that I couldn't account for or sincerely do not know your nicks/names.

Thank you very much.

One more thing to add to my Outing Report.

Up at Skypark, my cell reception was bad, very bad. Had dropped calls, and even smses had to be resent several times. An M1 subscriber BTW.

Just something to take note of in future.

Oklah bro, the next generation of seniors have been groomed. Time for us to sit back quietly in the independent shooters corner already! :vhappy:

I think I need to downgrade myself to newbie after looking at all these shots :embrass:
No doubt some shots may be a bit soft, or composition not to everyone's liking, but I think it's safe to say that you can show some of these photos to your friends/relatives and feel proud that you took these. It's just the start of a long journey to improving your photography!

Thanks dingaroo for the great write-up! I hope everyone gave him a word of thanks for pulling this outing off. Not easy with so many people divided into 2 groups. I'm sure he was scurrying around frantically answering calls and SMSs.

Nice pics everyone... i can sit back and relax too.. Next time i sign up as newbie can? :embrass:

Hi Dingaroo,

Your shot no.3 has much potential. I tried to add some moody atmospherics with black and white to give an idea of the possibilities:

Pardon the slight image degradation. Was working with a small file size.

5) Viewing from the skypark..

I searched the 30 June outing and you didn't post any photos (notti notti... :sticktong). Was trying to compare photos.
Looks like your series of shots were well done. Nice n sharp and well exposed. I like this one above. Good use of the tilt to fit the tall buildings in (i'm guessing you already shooting at widest), whilst also including the couple for sense of depth.
thumbs up!

Checking out the outing thread, mustn't forget these folks for helping to churn out the magnificient shots:

GROUP 1
Guides:
1. dingaroo
2. korbidp3k

GROUP 2
Guides:
1. Jacobs
2. estherfu
3. coolthought

Independent Shooters:
1. chillicrab1
2. gravism
3. scubagolfer & Mrs
4. kenny888
5. Peterpan
6. Gaowei

Group 2 seems to be guided by 2 former Newbie outing regulars recently promoted to guide status and a kind volunteer guide as well! Same for group one with the Don heading the group! Well done, all your hard work and guidance really paid off. I'm sure the independent shooters also did their bit to help out. Goes to show the importance of good guidance and the willingness to be open minded and learn.

Maybe just adjust the white balance during shoot or PP. Seems a touch too blue? May look nice warmed up and increase the contrast a tad as well.
