Newbies Outing (part 10) - June 6 Sunday, Marina Barrage

Nice shots Ghaz1. The landscape (daylight, twilight and night time) all look good. The Kite Flyer almost looks like a painting. :)

Thanks. Hope you picked up useful tips on this outing and see you on future outings as well. Just be sure to check often and sign up quickly. The spaces evaporate very fast! ;)

I have two more pics to share. Portraits I took before I meet the group and after I left the group. Both shot with old manual lenses. There is a reason why I like these dinosaur lenses so much...

Shot with 85mm/2 Ai. It helps when the wind is blowing in the right direction.

Shot with 50mm/1.2 Ais. Ambient light only no flash. Light came from above, giving my wife some virtual eyebags...

Wah, old lens...

Love the one taken by the 85f2 Ai, very film like and not too harsh as with most modern primes. How does it compare with the legendary 105f2.5?

I haven't really tried the 105/2.5 yet. I almost got it when deciding between that and the 85/2. In the end went for the 85 due to the friendlier focal length due to cropped sensor.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Nah, we were just lucky. If the sky was overcast, there would have been nothing interesting to shoot. As a landscape photographer, usually you'd go back to shoot the same scene over and over under different weather conditions just to capture the best one.

You were with the morning outing as well. For me, I've been to the Esplanade more than 10 times, on my own and with outings, just to capture the CBD skyline, with different lenses.

I find the best morning blue shot, is just after it rains. The air is crispier, and less dirty. Just my opinion.

So, after this outing, hope it gives you the encouragement to go out and shoot such scenes on your own. :)

HTH.

About the above picture, watch the horizon level, as it is tilted downwards to the left.

Cheers!

Thanks, will take note of the horizon level in the future. :)

Its distorted and the not level, I admit it. Wanted to post process it, but decided to post it as is.

Cheers!

Yea bros, ZCA, Numnumball, dingaroo, where next? I had good experience shooting sunrise at Upper pierce reservoir but that place is a lot more inaccessible than the Barrage. Sunset is nice at Lower Pierce Reservoir.

Hi Joshua, appears to me that your pictures below are over sharpened.. :dunno:

oh okie dokie..

If sick of urbanscapes, we can move to reservoirs/parks like what you had mentioned.

Sunrise - Lower seletar reservoir, Pungol beach

Sunset - Lower Peirce reservoir, Upper Seletar reservoir, Labrador Park

If still Sticking with Urbanscape - Boat Quay/Raffles Place/CBD

Well, tats all i can think of... for the moment.. more brainstorming required..

More ideas are certainly welcome also.. :)

We can also shoot the sunrise at the Helix. I heard it is real pretty at dawn.
