for the 17-55, I assume you are using the 55 end to get the effect of blurring the background ?
Just wondering, since you shoot so close, is there a need to use macro lens ?

Yes ntheni, I think your food is close enuf for me. That means no need macro lens for me too.Thanks! I don't always use the far end 55. Composition come first for my food photo. You can still get blurring effect at 30mm just that not as much as 55, but as long as the subject I want to bring out is in focus then it will be good enough for me.
For my range of photo, no Marco lens is use. I don't see the need for my style, but a lots of food photographer recommend to use Marco lens for food photography. Especially those who like to get really close to get the detail of the foods. For me I don't get too near as I want to present the view from a diner.
