:think: $1000 can probably can get the Tamron 17-50, a nice bag and a good filter to protect the 17-50. will probably have money left over to get a blower and lens pen as well

such an expensive hobby! i intend to buy a macro lens instead !

What??? Damn it...no wonder..... okok, i need to go down to funan today again!

But the funny thing is when i ask is it slr...they look at me and said yes! No wonder they quoted 960 for kr instead of 910

Why you guys ask estrangable to go and buy lens when he is looking to get his camera body first. For what???
estrangable, why not just talk to the people at Emjay and see if they can arrange with SLR Rev to take delivery of one set of K-r (assuming the stock is not in).
Also talk to SLR Rev if they are open to this arrangement. That way you can get to use the CapitaLand vouchers. Best to explore if they are open to accepting the vouchers because of the possible administrative issues involved.

They also have 2 demo sets on display:

2) White K-x

No.1 item should be a dry box to store your camera and lenses.

For protecting the lens, I would recommend getting the correct hoods for them. Refer to this thread for more details

My preferred approach is more to the other extreme.

The blunt fact is that they are salesmen, not pro photographers or equipment reviewer. They won't know the answer to all your questions.

By the time I go to the shop, I am already more or less decided. Just need to make sure the price is within tolerable range. I just want the best price, a smiling face and for the item to be in stock. If its lens, I bring my camera to test first.

No point going to the shop to ask. Unlikely to get the answers you want.

I understand your approach. There are times I do the same, do my research, know what I want, go to shop, pay and byebye. However, now I am paying for a product +/- $1k, so I would prefer to 'discuss' or 'talk abit' rather than "pay and go".

Maybe it is also because I view service to be quite important.

Or maybe I just need some assurance on my choice of purchase. :S no one will be able to discuss with me or accompany me when I make my purchase, and I am a super newbie, so I thought that maybe the salesman will be able to make certain recommendations or give some opinions. Of course like mentioned, they will probably just push the product with the highest profit margin.

Join us at the outing this Friday. I'm sure that there will be lots of K-r, K-x for you to try and get a feel. You'll also probably be able to get much better answers on the K-r at the outing than from any salesperson.

The K-r is the same size as K-x. So if you just want to feel the size, you can try k-x.

Last wk, there was a K-r set at Alan photo, so you can play with those.

I find the K-r a nice size and weight to be. Big enough to hold comfortably and steady, yet small enough for traveling.


I would be careful of discussing stuff with the salesman though, unless you know him very well and is known to be reputable. They will try to push the cameras that have the highest margin for them, so beware.

Are they almost exactly the same? Well hopefully SLR R has the K-r on display so I can get a feel of it. Previously I asked to feel the D3100 at Best, the salesman said no display and gave me the D3000 to try instead. He said "similar" but it felt so heavy and different to me as compared to the D3100 (i tried at another shop). (! yeah probably another example of the salesmen just can't be arsed about me)

Because I will be putting the camera in my tote bag so I hope it won't be too heavy.
