AP $930
CWS $880
J316 $890
CP $965 (but manage to get it at $890) left only one piece for canon mount;)

Thanks bro... may I know where is CWS?

hmmm. should i get this or 24-105 L? i'm not sure though, cos taking the effort to change to WA is not a problem. but i bet 24-105 picture quality is better?

I got these quote from AP

NIKON D90 Body + 18-270 Tamron VC -- sgd 2140.00 (4gb sdhc)

All prices are quoted before GST, and apply to cash payment only.

I'm planning to get the D90 body with the 18-270 VC Tamron by December

Any comment?

I just got the tamron 18-270 for canon mount...

the VC really works very effectively.

I compared a shot at 50mm, 1/5 shutter speed using 17-50mm and 18-270 VC. With the VC, the image was sharp. The one with 17-50 was blur.

However, I notice that when the VC is on, sometimes when the shutter is pressed halfway, there is a slight jerk of the image thru the viewfinder. Anyone with this lens experience this?

Btw, I got it at Orient Photo at 900

It should be the VC at work.

Any Nikon user using this lens with positive experiences? So far seems like Nikon user faces more problem than Canon users...hardly seen a positive Nikon user review but got a couple of good Canon user reviews from dpreview.

I took my Tamron 18-270mm replacement lens to Beijing (attached to my Nikon D300) for a spin a few days ago.

The outside temperature was a freezing -10°C! But the Tamron lens seemed to work perfectly this time.

The autofocus worked flawlessly throughout the entire zoom range, as long as aperture was F5.6 or bigger.

Surprisingly, in good lighting conditions, it also autofocused well at F6.3! But when in dim lights, it hunts.

In my humble opinion, this is a great walk-about lens, definitely better than the Nikon 10-200mm AFS DX VR lens, Tamron 18-270mm's VC works a lot better than Nikon's 18-200mm VR. Photo image is sharpest when shot using F6.3 to F8.0.

Attached are some photos I took.

Wow, very impressive! I hope a Canon user can post some pics too? I've only found Nikon mounted version images so far.

Hi,

Do you happen to have any pic to test on the distortion on both the 18mm and 270mm? Just curious how is the performance for such a long zoom.:)

Hi!

The 18-270mm lens has serious barrel distortion at 18mm wide open. CA is not so bad. But the barrel distortion can be easily corrected using photoshop.

I use the following steps "filter" - "distort" - "lens correction" - "remove distortion +3.4" to do the job. It's quite effective in getting rid of the barrel distortion.

Please refer to DPREVIEW on the review of this lens for a professional opinion.

As for me, this is a great walk-about lens to have. Hey! I don't get a cent from Tamron for saying this!

I still recommend to shoot between F6.3 to F8.0 for balanced, crisp, sharp pictures.

Thanks for the info. :)

What's the price on the Nikon mount for this lens? $880?

I bought mine at MS Colour Service for S$930 + an NTUC S$50 voucher.

This photo was shot hand-held with AP set at F8.0, 1/800 sec, ISO 200, Auto WB and 20mm zoom.
Appended below are 2 photos of the same shot to demonstrate the barrel distortion of this lens.

Photo #1 - The original untouched shot showing pronounced barrel distortion.

Photo #2 - Barrel distortion and perpective corrected using photoshop - maybe over-corrected a little..

$930 for Nikon mount? Ok.

I think barrel distortion is expected along with a few other compromises. :)
