Seem like the barrel distortion is quite bad... in 18mm... can't imagine doing DI correction for all images taken in that focal range. :(

Shot this colonial-era photo in the Singapore National Museum.
f3.8, 1/25 sec, ISO 800, 27mm zoom. Hand-Held
Test-Shot-005.jpg

I shot this batik dress in the National Museum's display cabinet, the external lighting condition was very dim, I held my camera as steady as I could and took 1/8 second for the shutter to close!
f4.5, 1/8 sec, ISO 1600, 46mm zoom.
Test-Shot-006.jpg

I shot these bicycles with a shutter speed of just 1/4 of a second!
f3.5, 1/4 sec, ISO 1600, 18mm zoom. Of course, hand-held.
Test-Shot-007.jpg

I shot these film reels inside a glass display caninet using a shutter speed of only 1/8 of a second.
F4.0, 1/8 sec, ISO 1600, 30mm zoom. Again, hand-held.
Test-Shot-008.jpg

Accept the limitations of this lens and you are going to love it. This lens is great for shooting photos for web use.

Tips: Always try to shoot using F8.0 whenever possible. Its sweet spot for crisp, sharp photos up to 14 inches (When viewed on my notebook's 14-in LCD display.)

I know the lighting condition of the SNM, I frequent there. I would say that its not easy to shoot handheld. This lens is getting into my good book. Btw did you do distortion correction on the first photo? The distortion looks not bad at 27mm.

All photos taken inside the Museum were untouched.

Anybody wishes to get a superzoom lens but does not want the associated distortions.. should really look elsewhere. This Tamron is NOT for you.

Perhaps the ONLY solution is to get primes lenses, say, one at 18mm, the other at 28mm, one at 35mm, one at 50mm, and another at 85mm, one more at 105mm, and another at 150mm, still one more at 200mm, and last but not least, one at 300mm!

Only then, there will be no distortions! But you have to lug 9 lenses with you!

As for me, one lens from 18mm-270mm zoom range, it's a dream lens!

So sorry if I sound critical on the lens. Actually I am not as I say this lens is getting into my good book. I am just appreciating the lens and studying its capability so that I know how to use its and what to expect from it if the day comes when I can save enough to own it.

Finally, thanks for all the info and sample pics you have posted.:)

I bought the 18-270 mm on 17 Dec at CP Marina Sq and checked with the salesman about any freebies but he said nothing of that sort. Hope you can provide more information on the vouchers.

Merry Christmas!! :bsmilie:

I am hoping that PTLens come up with an update to include this lens into their database.

I can't found this Tamron 18-270mm len in Singapore. Anyone know this len(Canon Mount) where can get it and what is the price now?

Did you have any focusing problem with it while in Live view? I read some post stating that some third party lenses has problem in focusing while in Live view on the D300/D90:dunno:

some sample shots of this lens in Canon mount to show what it is capable of/incapable of. No PP except cropping. If only this lens can be a tad faster!
