my question too! if buying now, best to find a place selling with new sensor, rather than buying old one and getting it replaced

As per my earlier posts, the conclusion is that no stores in sg carry the cameras with new sensor. It is still the old batch so don't get bluffed by the shops.
Nevertheless X10 is a great camera and the white orb effect will surface on very particular conditions. There are feedback as well that the new sensor is not as good as the original one when taking low light, more noise in fact. So if you really like the camera for its images and performance, just get it. In the end if the white orb is an issue, you can change the sensor for free :bsmilie:

If you have credit card, you can buy it at Cathay with 0% installment plan. That is what I am doing because this is quite a pricey cam

Well, I carry it a lot more often than I carry my dSLR nowadays, so I guess it IS my main camera

for me, no i don't see any differences but if you look around the other forums some say there are differences (different color rendering(greens and reds?), less sharp, etc)
i guess we just have to wait for someone to do a controlled test to really see if there are differences. you can still wait for these reviews to come out before
you go and ask for an exchange but if you are not bothered by the orbs then all is good

yeah, i guess u really need to pixel-peep to notice differences?! haha. still waiting on dpreview to put out a review.. cant seem to find many other review sites that even mention the white-orb problem, leave alone compare the sensors.. i actually had a problem with my x10 and had to return it.. so im in the market again.. i read something about the lumix LX7 gonna be announced soon so i think i'll hold on til that before i buy!

Very impressive results for such a small sensor. If remove the shortcomes (flash/RAW/movie), it'd easily score 80 and above. Lucky I don't care about these three anyway, JPG all the way for this little beauty
yeah i just read the dpreview x10 review and came back to post. very good to hear that they didnt notice any differences in IQ between old and new sensor. if they dont notice anything, i doubt i will! haha. and yeah, im not interested in the negative points they mentioned either.. flash, i rarely use flash even on my dslr. movie, never. maybe just for fun. and RAW, well i like to shoot RAW but if the JPEG quality is so good.. kinda defeats the purpose.. and maybe when third party software updates with better support for the EXR sensor, things will get better?! that seems to be the biggest issue with the RAW images thus far. very impressive indeed, this X10
