New photo leaks of OM-D

The 2 things I wish for are, 'direct compatibility' with 4/3 lens on the OM-D (without adaptor - which is not likely possible, but strangely Pentax K-01 managed to do it hmmm) and have as awesome focusing speed with 4/3 lens (e.g, 12-60, since it is not CD-AF) too! That way, I can ditch my E3 and justify with 1 OM-D.

Direct 4/3 support is not possible. Pentax was able to do it because they maintained the same flange distance from lens to sensor. That is why the Pentax mirrorless is so thick.

There is a new adapter that promises something better for 4/3 lenses

The basic actually works for me. There still seems to be proportion problem but i will wait for the actual thing..

I'm 50/50 on betting this is the real image since the Pens lost that "extrusion" for the lens mount (the change in elevation behind the lens) although the OM-D picture does indicate it has that elevation.

a quick image search shows most of the m4/3 bodies don't need that extrusion, i am assuming it maintains the distance on the sensor and lens..

If Oly chose to maintain the extrusion for the OM-D look there would be some reconfiguration of the internals.. probably move the sensor forward to compensate for the movement of the lens mount

I'm hoping that the focusing speed with 4/3 lenses will be improved, so that it almost matches that of the m4/3 lenses. I doubt so though, there needs to be new technology to achieve this (just upping the readout/processing speed won't help), and I don't see this happening.

They could implement that transparent mirror thingy, but for some reasons or another, they have taken their own sweet bloody time to implement it.

I'm still not sure what's in the hump though. And that's a huge eye cup!

But! It looks good! Barring an unusually poor performance on the camera, I would probably be getting one.

The GH2 has a similar sized hump to incorporate a diopter.

Max shutter speed - 1/4000 not so sweet, prefer 1/8000.

Agreed! 1/4000s and iso 200 definitely prevents use of fast primes wide open on bright outdoor, this is certainly not so pro specs. essentially same as ep3. Thats quite a disappointment...

yeah 1/4000.. you can easily reach that in a sunny day using fast lenses unless they have like iso 60 xD... im curious what is the range of that 50-200 looking lens in the background.. and the 75 1.8 lens seems huge for m4/3.

Looks like a new 36 type flash in the lower right.
75 f1.8 - sweet!
Tiltable screen - sweet

No inbuilt flash - not so sweet but i guess can live with the small modular flash.

Woah!!! Apparently the new flash is a FL600R with a VIDEO LIGHT!!!!! That sounds sweet!

The bracket they show seems to put it a bit too close vertically to the lens so red eye effect might still be a problem, but at least, it's something new. I also noticed a dual microphone accessory, but the hot shoe is blocked by the flash extender cable, so I wonder how they could work together.

The bracket is not new. Its a generic flash bracket system that Oly sells to use with their flashes. And its of little concern. If you want you can put in different arms (angle / length) to get different distances and relative position from the lens.

The microphone is not new. And they don't, you either choose the flash or the microphone. Though the camera appears to have two holes for the built in mic suggesting stereo capability.

More info from 4/3 Rumors http://www.43rumors.com/ft5-new-precious-olympus-e-m5-info/. This E-M5 is really Olympus' answer to the Panasonic GX1 (and possibly the upcoming Fujifilm X-Pro1). I suspect some sitting-on-the-fence DSLR users might switch, especially if more fast-and-sharp lenses are released. (Oh Pana 12-35 and 35-100 where art thou?)

1.) E-M5 has Super fast AF and “3D tracking” for “moving objects” .

2.) The camera comes with an external GN10 flash called FL-LM2, which is “weather sealed” and can be used as remote trigger (just like E-P3)

3.) There is a E-M5 Diving box coming this summer (name PT-E08). It goes 45 Meters under water, and you can use the 14-42mm II, 14-42MM IIR or MZD 9-18mm lens. You can also use MF lenses like the Zuiko ED 8mm f/3.5, the ZD 50mm f/2.0. The (external) Flash that comes with the E-M5 can also be used.

4.) The MMF-3 adapter is weather sealed and has a “detachable” tripod mount. There is no info about the focusing speed…

5.) We will be able to view the IS effect through the new EVF, and the EVF has sensor when you get close to 18mm it turns on (turns on very fast according to OLY), you will also be able to see the shutter speeds and aperture stuff just like the E-5 at the bottom of the EVF

6.) There will be two more art filters ->Dramatic Version2 and a new Version of a current filter…

7.) Video format is MOV (MPG4 AVC, H.264). Sound is PCM. They still have the AVI (motion JPG), still not sure if the E-M5 can record at 60p, let’s also cross our fingers on this one.

8.) The two extra Fn buttons on the horizontal battery grip can be set for different functions other than the one on you have on the camera. The battery grip uses the same kind of battery of the E-M5. It’a new battery with 1220 mA! The grip can connect to an AC adapter.

9.) The FL-600R flash is a GN50 flash with much faster recover than the current FL-36R or FL-50R. It also has an extra LED light for “recording mode”, it can also fire short flashes to help focusing in low light“

Looking good there! The silver/black one is particularly nice looking!

looks good but boring. Why they have to make it like a camera made in 70's n 80's...

Apparently, it is a marketing gimmick that works - look at Fuji X100 (Overpriced and fixed lens, yet still selling like hotcakes all over the world - duh!) and like how Leica makes their blockish unique-looking cameras till date.

Of course, I bet Olympus is also an "old fashioned company" (judging from how the many CEOs continued to embezzel funds, they sure like it that way), so I reckon they are retaining every bit of their favoured-success for their OM series hoping to make a come-back in a digital era.

I don't mind the look, but for some reason, the look screams "plastic" more than other usual plastic cameras. This is not so bad for the basic camera, actually... But for the camera with grip, it just seems that way. Maybe because grips are usually rubberized, and this one doesn't seem to be in the picture? :dunno:
