all things considered, its a better camera. like the better images, iso etc. was thinking of getting another GH2 for backup but end up with GH3. no regret though.

So what's so bad about the new EVF? Is the magnification really lower? I'm still surprised how they managed to downgrade the EVF...

The eye needs to be centred correctly. The oled EVF has less tolerance for left/right side movements. Otherwise u might get some smearing

I prefer it to gh2. Clearer. Brighter.

Really don't know how to explained haha. its like no matter how i manual focus i can't tell if its focus or not. its like looking thru some lousy lens.my eye really stress man. its more tricky with wide shot with detail. i really struggling with my nokton! I don't have this problem with my GH2. Maybe its the magnifying lens rather than the EVF led itself. I don't know man.. except for this i really like the GH3! Guess i will wait for my "perfect" cam.. GH4 anyone?

Apparently the GH4 will be out by the end of this year.

Unsubstantiated Rumour... doubtful as Panny generally waits 18 to 24mths for each GH model.

GH1 --> GH2 (18mths)
GH2 --> GH3 (24mths)

Yeah, I know. Well I guess it depends on how well it sells. :) Somehow I have the feeling it might not go so well as with the GH2...

I have the same disappointment when just got the gh3.. the evf seems to get blur when eye is not centered properly.. and screen also smaller than the gh2.. somehow after some time I am getting use to it hence it doesn't bother me anymore.. hence no regret getting it..

Yep. I wear contacts so I try to get my eyeball as close to the EVF as possible. If you wear specs it might be harder.

Ya i think have to get use to it lor. i just think of the plenty of positives - battery best! but thinking should i order from bhphoto or wait for local stock. :)

I too am slightly disappointed with the EVF smearing but it's not a deal breaker.

The potential deal breaker is possibly the moire you get when shooting video. It can be quite easy to create moire and that's a rather significant problem. I don't remember having this sort of problem with GH2. The X-Pro1 which I also have has significant moire problem, and I thought the GH3 is the X-Pro1 when I watched my video — no kidding — just that GH3 moire is finer and X-Pro1 moire is coarser.

If you're upgrading from GH2 to GH3 just for the video, I really recommend you to read more into this problem. That's perhaps the only deal breaker for the GH3.

---

One interesting thing though is, Panasonic seems to have been able to remove the occasional moire problem for still images. Not sure how they did that but that's a good improvement.

I did see moire, specially on the screen and evf when viewing and recording. Surprisingly its less pronounced when playing back the clip. Codec, in-camera processing, magic.. don't know :) Turning down sharpness will help control that moire. I also seen that moire depends on the lens, the sharper it is, moire moire:) adding that cinematic feel needs that sharpening down and a relatively flat image anyways. +1 for the GH3's dynamic range, a lot of detail (shadow, highlights) can be retained for that post process you need.

How's the finishing on the body? Is it still the rubberised plastic which will turn sticky over time?

My ancient G1 is a dust magnet nowadays.

Nope. It's been changed after the G2. Besides the grip area, the plastic covering the magnesium body is like any other dslr.
