New AF-S Primes and Zooms Rumours - Will it come true?

condensed analysis of diff btw old and new... very slightly larger, very slightly heavier, no aperture ring (G lens), wider front filter (58mm rather than 52mm), very slightly wider angle of coverage, 9 blade aperture rather than 7 for possibly better out of focus rendition (quality of bokeh), more complicated construction (implications for flaring and distortion?)... and of course, AF-S ring-type focus motor... also supposed to be non-extending on focus... and there looks to be a bayonet mount for a lens hood as well as the white dot for hood mounting alignment...

according to dpreview, available from December '08

apart from the 9-blade diaphragm, nothing really special...

At the very least, these new up-and-coming lenses would be better suited to Nikon's range of FX DSLRs.

Putting price aside, it's about time.

No Nano crystal coat though.

They just announced the AFS 50mm G lens. I wonder when would the 85mm come.

Cheers

maybe the purpose of the lenshood bayonet mount is to mount a hood to help overcome possible increase in flare problem? :)

Recommended Retail Price: 60,000yen (Same as Sigma Japan)

http://www.nikon.co.jp/main/jpn/whatsnew/2008/0922_afs50_01.htm

With that, the street price should be around 40~50k yen, which is equal to about S$550~650?

tks for the info... looks like this is going to be an expensive prime lens... but if it performs well, may be worth paying for it...

hopefully the optics are jsut as good if not better than the AF version

it was rumored that the AF-S 50mm F1.4 will be announced at Photokina... and it came true

it was also rumored that the AF-S 85mm F1.4 will be announced too... maybe it will come true in 1-2 days time?

let's hope so :)

so ladies and gentlemen, now that one lens has come true...

which other lens or lenses do you hope will come true too?

share your desires  here :)

geepeers!

Nikon USA in the rush to put up the new AF-S 50mm F1.4 made two very terrible mistakes on the main AF-S 50mm F1.4 product page and the Tech Specs tab...

If they haven't seen them and changed them, the glaring mistakes could still be there...
(If they have already changed it, haha I've already made screen capture)

Can you spot them? :bsmilie:

Here is the link

35mm/f1.8 or f1.4....

Finally!9 blades!
wider front filter (58mm rather than 52mm)
Darn...They trying to copy canon.52mm filters are cheaper:thumbsup:

Some Canon engineers jumped ship? ;p Be glad Nikon used 58mm instead of 62mm. Looks like Nikon is starting to adopt other filter diameters. Used to be just 52mm, 62mm, 72mm. Then they introduced 77mm because of 80-200, then 67mm with the 18-70 kit lens and now 58mm....

To be honest, I prefer they stick with 52mm, 62mm, 72mm and 77mm.

I'd prefer 3 sizes - 52mm for my lightweight bunch and 77mm for my heavy weights. 72mm for my little oddities like 18-200mm.

I have quite a number of 52, 62 and 72 lenses, then they introduced so many 77 lenses!! So no choice, I got to have these sizes.
