This is a major possibility. The old one is quite bad on FX as it was launched quite some time before the D3.

the 'quite bad on FX' might be too over rated..... if it is really that 'quite bad', why is it still flying off the shelf once stock arrived in the shops?

becos it is the best as of now. :bsmilie:

interestingly, the current AF 50mm F1.4D is no longer in stock at B&H... and ther's no back-order... hmm...

could this mean that the new AFS 50mm F1.4G is really coming?!?

here's the link regarding the "mysterious" AF 50mm F1.4D out of stock

anyway the site also had an earlier post stating the same thing as the chinese website that...

AF-S 50mm 1.4 G - replacement is coming (confirmed)
AF-S 85mm 1.4 G - replacement is coming (confirmed)
AF-S 70-200mm 2,8 VRII - replacement is coming (confirmed)

maybe the source was the same chinese website? :dunno:

time will tell, time will tell... Photokina coming soon!

here's a DpReview on the AF 50mm F1.4D

kind of late review since the lens has been around for so long and now with the possibility of a new AF-S version...

anyway, it had a "Highly Recommended" results...

if the current AF version is so good why introduce another...

i read somewhere that putting a SWM in may reduce the performance of this lens as well as others like the AF 85mm F1.4D...

so worth getting the new AF-S versions if they do comne out?

what do you guys think? tks

yep you've got a point... maybe Nikon wants to do lots to maintain the lead (?) they've managed to garner recently due to D3, D300 and D700

let's hope all the above come true!

(but then there will big hole in pocket and lots of pacifying gf or wife :bsmilie:)

Is that 3rd lens on the picture a Nikon 10-24mm for DX?

The first 2 lenses look suspiciously similar, my take is they are nice photoshop copies of some existing lens.

I was very excited when the AFS 60mm was announced, happily sold of my almost brand new AFD 60mm (ended up borrowing a 60mm for a trip as the delivery didn't come in time). But to my horrors the price difference was like 25% between the AFD (600+) and AFS (800+) versions.

Almost went back to AFD, but eventually bit the bullet and bought the AFS version eventually, and am happy to say that the AFS version is so much nicer than the AFD version.

Now the sad part, for me at least, from some of these postings and other rumour pages, and my own experienc with the AFS/AFD 60mm, I think we are going to end up paying a premium in the updated lenses. The rumour is that te AFS50mm f/1.4 will go for 600+ Euro, perhaps that would translate into 600-800Sing? Compare to 400+ for AFD, that's like 50-100% difference!:thumbsd:

Now starting to regret selling off my AF/AFD 50mm ...
