New!!! 50mm f1.8 G lens

It's not a complete overhaul, they just added 1 extra (aspherical) element. The size increase is probably due to the added focusing motor.

you are not an engineer are you? you can see the lens construction pic from nikon. I think they changed all the elements inside the lens. you can't just err add in 1 extra element out of nowhere....

Yeah definitely will be sharper, but IMO not worth the price. I'd get the 50/1.8D over this.

price is all relative. If you compare with the f1.8D, it looks expensive. But if you compare it to the f1.4G, maybe it looks better value. Especially when the F1.4G is not that sharp wide open and you may have to stop down to f1.8 anyway.

I think the f1.8 is great in terms of pricing, size, etc.

i just hope that the bokeh stays circular when stopping down....

No point arguing and discussing about this until the lens finally reach our shores with a definite pricing. Also no point arguing about IQ until someone actually did a controlled test with it. And knowing the interest in this lens, many will do the tests as soon as they get their hands on it.

Just be patient and wait. No point speculating.

btw, I for one, will not be interested in this lens. ;)

I'm definitely one of them to do a field test. Using a no AF motor camera, this is something i would look forward to :)

I'll give a pass to this lens and rather look forward to the 50mm f1.2G.

Im wandering if they will come out with 50mm f/0.1G ?

a 50mm f/0.1G will require an aperture that can open up to 500mm wide... (50cm wide)...

Good luck carrying the lens. :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

haha daredevil is cheeky. f0.9 will ardy have a thin DOF. f0.1 = only the nose in focus haha

Truth mah... real aperture size = F/stop * focal length mah...

So 50mm F/0.1, the aperture size = 1/0.1 * 50mm = 500mm = 50cm... so the aperture size (hole) needs to be 50cm wide in diameter.

the link's working for me.
looks damn awesome.

looks like it performs the same as the 35 1.8 sharpness wise, when is this lens going to be available in singapore?

U.S price quoted $219. It should be around the same price as the 35mm f1.8G DX

35/1.8 is 199 in USA. So I guess 50/1.8g should be high 300s.
