what kind of dry cabinet should i look for....

there are those normal ones and those electronic ones. which should i go for?

i do not foresee me owning more then 4 lens [including] my kit lens :D i need to purchase it sooner or later... :D

Hi all,
I believe u guys out there are fortunate to have so many choices of dry cabinets.
Please let me share my experience, I bought my first dry cabinet sometimes back ard 1986...which i m still using it. The dry cabinet i have (Dry-cabi) was imported from Japan thru' an agent here in sg. My dry cabinet is usually full.....with lenses, cameras, slides and now discs. Since the day I brought it home (with the curtesy of my friend who drive me home), i have only switched it off twice...thats where i shifted house twice. This dry cabinet never failed me......except it is rather congested now. My dry cabinet has a transformer that is built outside (unlike today's model are built internally) which is cumbersome and unsightly.
The only dislike about my dry cabinet is its colour. I wonder why the manufacturer always painted them black. It doesn't matched my furniture of my room. May be you guys may take note on this. Apart from this, i would suggest that those who are planning to buy 1, think of the long term.....Ask yourself, how far would u go from here in photography? If the answer is yes and very far, do invest in a higher capacity dry cabinet and do your study well.

hi there.... how much did u buy ur Digihub dry cabinet for??
and from which Carrefour??
wanna get one too by this weekend.
thanks in advance....;)

I just bought a AD80 from Carrefour just an hour back and it will be delivered on the coming Thursday! Problem is I saw this thread too late, else I would have ordered direct from Digihub. Does anyone know if the sets in Carrefour include also the free drybox and Super camera Cleaning kit as in the promo on http://www.digihub.com.sg/Uploads/pdf/db1025c4c5d343ac99a1315d7bc94e93.pdf?

Thanks!!

Take good care of your lenses and buy a spacious dry cabinet. Your lenses will thank you for it whenever you shoot!

I dont really remember exactly how much, but it is around the Digihub price at ~$207-$210. I definitely want the freebies though!

Just called Digihub. The guy who answered said that Carrefour would not have the freebies. He said however that the freebies are not quality stuff anyway, so no loss. Also, they have run out of the Ad080. From what I remember, even at Carrefour, stocks were low. You might want to bring forward your "survey" if you are particular on what size you want.

Goodluck! Mine is coming in tommorrow. :-)

if u considering the 80L, take a look at the 70L as well. 3 trays, can store more stuffs & cheaper too, $188 only...

Hi Guys,

Wondering any issue keeping the Dry-cabi in the store room? Knowing that store room is usually humi. Anyway, the RH is in the range of 45 to 48.

Hi,
I am also looking for a dry cabinet for my needs. I stay in India. I have e-mailed digi hubs contact e-mail and also submitted information request on their web page. I e-mailed them last saturday, and have not received a response yet.

how do I get price quotes? is there any other good shop from where I can buy?

Carrefour has a promotion ending tmrw (22Feb) for the AD50, $155 with free Drybox. Believe this is the same Drybox that Digihub is giving out.

Hi
From another complete Newbie. I live in Belgium In what is possibly the similar climate to England where i moved from. Being new to Cameras i had never heard of a special Cabinet to keep the Camera and lens in a complete suprise. I had intended to keep the Camera and Lens in a Oak Cabinent in my front Room it has double front Glass Doors. Is this okay, or do i need to look into this Dry Cabinet you Guys talk about. I get my first Camera next Wednsday. Thanks for any help and at 66 years old and my first Camera, I sure do need any help i can get
Dreadlock:)

Have never been to Belgium but have been to England; Since England is an island just like Singapore, it rains quite a bit but is cooler than here, thus the relative humidity (RH) should be lower.
Regardless of the RH difference, if it isn't anything below below 50%, you should consider investing in a dry cabinet or at least a drybox with dehumidifier of sort. Penny pinching isn't something you'd want to do where cameras are concerned; Afterall, what's another 100Euros after spending more than 2,000 Euros on your equipment (and possibly another 1,000 Euros more in the next few months).

DON'T! Trust me, 30L is not big. Get something bigger, because you will regret getting a 30L. The D80 itself will take up a lot of space, not to mention future lenses you might get like the 18-200mm VR, etc.

There's 2 model for the 30L. The older 1 tray version comes with a free drybox but most places out of stock already. The new version has 2 trays but no free gift. I bought the latter at carrefour, got 5% rebate with everyday card & free delivery (may have to spend min $150)...

good.... thanks for the infos bro.
but may i know whether the dry cabi is a bit small for the equipment u put inside since it is only 30l.....
and wat are the stuffs u put inside?
thanks again...;)

I only have a D80, 18-200 & a compact now... check out maddyks' # 227 post, he has a few stuffs in there. I think he's using the older 1 tray version. Before I decided to get a 30L, also saw a post where someone stuffed quite a load of lenses in there and still got space for another 70-200...

ultimately, it depends on wat u wanna put inside ur dry cabi. Some even put CDs, watches & boxes for the camera/lenses in there.. for me, I intend to put only photography stuffs and if one day my stuffs cant fit into the 30L, I can just get another cabi & stack.. doubt prices will rise..

Finally dont think so much lah, my opinion is dat u narrow down ur choices to the 2 trays 30L ($99) or 3 trays 70L ($188). Wont go wrong with either...
