hi folks...
is it worth it to get the extended 2 years warranty?
think it cost $70 if register within 14 days.
thanks.

thinking of getting LAH-DC20 and WC-DC58A... anyone knows the recent price?

oh that means cant buy raynox lor... coz 52 mmm only... so ? now where to buy -out of stock ? Me wish to buy wide angle lens ...for scenery photos when traveling...can help me out ?
I think quite a few people are confused about the lens adapter size. Firstly, you have to understand why there is a need to have the adapter. You usually add the adapter in order to add a lens converter (be it a wide-angle or tele-photo one). You noticed I called these converters and not lenses since technically they are not really considered as camera lenses.

OK, for S5IS, most people will be getting the 58mm becos WC-DC58A is 58mm. However, if you use 3rd party lenses such as Raynox, some of their converters are at 52mm.

You can find a good source of information on S5IS accessories/add-ons in this Lensmate website. http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/S2.html

They also have detail information on Raynox converters that are compatible with S5IS. http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/order_S2_1.html

wah thanks, very informative on the link as I noob on camera and buying this week

But filling flash and night portraits are totally different things altogether.
Err... are they? I dunno... please enlighten me here. I am trying to learn also. The fill in flash is to light up the subject in the foreground and still capture the background (further where the flash can't reach, but a longer exposure will). Isn't that? I thought I tried night portrait mode in one of those PNS cameras and that was exactly what it did.

In S5IS (as in most advanced P&S), there is a slow Sync mode in flash. The meter is taken from the background so it will not underexpose the background and the flash will lite up at the end of the exposure. However, due to the slow speed (dark background), you might need a tripod to avoid camera shake. P.43 in S5IS advanced user guide.

Ahh... ok, that's the mode I am talking about. It's not called fill in flash?

Fill-in flash usually is used to brighten up underexposed objects especially in a backlit situation. Night portraits are more or less understood if u want to properly expose both your subject and the background, unless there's already a light source on your subject directly then just mount tripod and expose without flash.

I dunno if it's just me, but I think there is a very very fine line of definition here... if any. Maybe I am just too noob to understand any subtle differences. :P

Nah, we're all here to learn and interact, including myself. :)

hi all...
I'm having fun wif my S5...
I've bought a kingston 4gb SDHC class 6 and able to read/format using the SDHC card reader I've just bought.
But my PC can't seem to detect the "supplied" Toshiba 4gb SDHC (class 4).
when used in the S5, it works fine, I can even format it.

any1 encountered same issue?

What OS are you using?

I had a problem with my Vista OS but it was solved after some bluetooth stack was removed. Dunno why everytime I put external drive in, with my bluetooth turned on and connected with my Nokia, it hung. But yours a bit different in the sense only that Toshiba? And the Kingston was ok?

yup, kingston is ok. ordy did the CHDK hehe I just want the batteries indicator.

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, also very new to the photography scene. Decided to take up photography and bought a S5 IS yesterday at the PC show.

A few questions to ask,

- Any website recommendations to learn how to take a good photograph?
- My S5 IS camera's SD card slot feels very tight when the SDcard is slotted in. And the push-release spring of the card slot seems to be not functioning. Is this common for this camera?
- For a newbie, what's a good way to learn about the camera controls? I read the supplied user guide and fail to understand a majority of what it's saying
