any1 got any recent quotes or prices for the S5?
so far I've got from CP is around 620 w/gst.
See the pictures gian liao right? haha. You want grey sets or full local warranty sets?

Grey sets can get for about $540 thereabouts.

I got some items which are grey also. The difference in price must justify. If it is just a 10% savings, then ok, pay for the local set. If got 20% 25% savings, I'd go for the grey sets. Just make sure that they either warrant the grey set with shop warranty or something like 1 week 1 to 1 exchange. If you buy something which is working in the first week, chances are it will last for the year.

Hi folks, I've been eyeing on S5 for 1mth le. ;) So far, the lowest quote I got was $550 w/o gst from Pixels n Shutter at sim lim (level 2). Is it safe to get from them? On the other hand, was thinking if I should wait for the IT show next week.. wonder if there'll be good deals. But if I wait, I know I'll surely end up looking at other models and doing comparison all over again...

Comparison and shopping is part of the experience and you should enjoy it what. :) And I think you should wait just a week to see what's available at the IT show. Might give you a lot more freebies even if the prices don't drop. And... if you want to buy from shops where you dun immediately recognise as reputable (I am not referring to any one shop in particular), you have to check, check and check that you are getting the 'full' set of the camera.. original batteries, straps and casing... memory cards given... blah blah blah... check!

Hi peekarwe...

just checked at Courts Tampines, $699 with gst.
comes with 4gb, tripod (din verify it's mini or normal tripod) , rechargeable batts and charger.
finally got a hold of the S5, haha it's great.

did try Pana FX18 (I think) , sony H10 and other olympus models,
I still feel S5 is great. the buttons for ISO, shutter etc are well placed.
did I say it looks good also? haha

but the H10 is more compact.
ohh man...decisions & decisions...

forgot to add,
I dun tink a 4gb card is enough right?
do I need a normal 4gb or the high speed ones?
thx again folks!

neway the quotes I get from the usual suspects are $620 w/gst.

can share how much are the grey sets and where to get?
pls PM if it's convenient.. thanks a lot...

oh yeah.. I can't wait for IT show next thurs as I'm gg bali next wed...
hope the camera will be of great use.

I dun think 4gb is enough right?
should I get a normal or hi speed SD card?
thanks

First of all if u are taking only still pictures I think its more than enuff unless u take with the highest resolution available or with video.

In any other case, sdcards are so freaking cheap nowadays. A 1GB card can cost u only $15.

Just pm'ed you. For others reading, I am not a vendor or selling anything. Just passing some lobangs around. :) And I dun want to be seen supporting any shop in particular or pple read already think I recommend something right or wrong. Cheers!

thx peekarwe for the lobang... looking into it... :)

hi prodigic... okies noted.. nid to get an extra card :)

8GB is less than $50 for normal class 2 speeds. Buy that. For the S5, no RAW shooting (without CHDK) so it's sufficient speed at class 2.

Yeah, will most prob wait for another week for the IT show.. u got lobang to share is it? Can PM me? TIA!! :)

I would suggest to also get an adapter and fix it to the S5 together with a filter, which will provide you peace of mind where you don''t have to worry too much of dust or foreign particles getting into the camera. The adapter is also a must-have if you plan to add special effect / purpose filter onto the camera.

Hi Raymondb....
for the S5, I need to get Canon LAH-DC20 lens adapter & Canon WC-DC58A?
if I were to get other brands, is it possible?
for filter, Hoya brand UV 58mm filter is ok?
thanks.

Need not be Canon one, there are third party one around, as long as it fit well. Those for the S3 also can be used, which I'm using now. Its made of metal, while the Canon one is made of plastic, I think.

The WC-DC58A is a wide angle conversion lens, I think its not a must have, all depending on what you would like to shoot more.

Filter size depend on the adapter you buy, there is also 52mm one, which I'm using. Hoya is quite an established brand, I think it should not give you any problem by using them.

hth.

hi, can i see some sample pics too? sorry for the hassle!

anyway i am also deciding if i should get the S5... very confused over a few cameras like the Nikon p5100 and Olympus 570... is the s5 still the best among the 3 cameras? i am interested in a camera with manual functions..

someone told me that if i want to get the S5, i might as well get a second-hand dslr (like the canon300d or 350d) since the size of the s5 and the functions are like the dslr... i'm not a professional photographer but am into photography.. my only concern is that i won't know how to take proper care of a dslr..

hope to get more insights on the s5! (like whether i shld get an s5 or start with a dslr.. ) :P

oh i got to ask a very noob qn.. whats grey set? sry!

The prosumer compacts and DSLRs are in a different class altogether so it really depends on what u want. Some don't like the hassles of changing lenses so prefer a smaller all-in-one for all their shooting needs. Taking care of a DSLR is similar with the compacts.

Grey set is basically a new set sold at a cheaper price with only shop warranty.

Hi Raymondb..
got it.. so I basically need an adapater and filter 1st...
thanks again for ur inputs.
