Agree that wealth is to be shared. Let be digress alittle here.Anyone did out there did contract work like renovations, events, ,restaurants dinning, PHOTOGRAPHY etc with any statuory boards, uni, CCs etc ??? Prices or fees are taken from the lowest bidders or are squeezed !!! After the fee is agreed,u will still ended up doing more but the fee remained.
(Note:How many HDB contractors have gone busted because of this?)

If paying people what they are worth, let's start from the ground........

Guys, it my duty to remind you the story of "Animal farm". It is an exact enactment of our situation now.

When life get tough, the Pigs being the clever ones (A-star scholars) lead a revolution to oust the tormentors.
In the beginning all animal are treated equally.
But when things get better (better economy), the pigs become more equal than the rest.
The pigs demand a bigger share of the pie because their jobs are very demanding and taxing.
But the rest of the animals have also put in their fair share of efforts to build the economy.

To cut the story short, In the end the old working horse got slaughter.:bheart:

If without pay incentives Singapore's best and brightest will go to work for Bill Gate, Li Ka-shing, Michael Dell or even Nikon Corporation etc.

Like that how? Who wins or who wins wins? :)

Help!!! Superman...

Please help me...

No ordinary people, no laws, no machine can stop these greedy monsters in the parliament.

Please Superman, Please resuce me!!!!

Who else can save me?

I am enslaved to HDB, 30 years of hard work just to pay the loan.

Another 10 years to pay off my children study loans.

After 40 years, it is end of life liao.

Are you sure if they apply, they will be employed by them... Reality check pls...

Honestly, there is only a handful of recognizable capable ppl in the cabin.

The rest ? ppl have been wondering how they even got in, in the first place :dunno:

Being paid more and more, expectations from the minister will get higher. So what happens if

the minister is not performing ? If there is an incentive, there should also be a penalty.

Otherwise, there will be no reasons to work harder.

Singaporean must stay competitive, so must the gahmen

go b minister lor :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

:o

Is tat molely gona to be a minister ?????

duh. she speaks like one, looks like one, acts like one, and even schools like one. i bet she makes a top notch minister. but you see, we get what we pay for, so to get her, we might need to increase pay further. we dun want her to be lost to private companies you know.;)

I'm alright with the benchmarking standards and stuff but I've been thinking...
If we don't have high pay for our civil servants, they may go elsewhere. But the question is do companies elsewhere actually want to hire them? If so, why haven't we seen Singaporeans at the top of international companies?

On the other hand, if we want to attract the talents from the private sectors. Do we really want to hire these guys to be our civil servants? In the private sector, they are managing employees, but as civil servants, they are servicing the population. It's a different perspective altogether. They may have the $$$ as the motivation, but do they have the service attitude?

When a person is motivated by money, there is only one god he/she serves.

_
I assume you are motivated by a greater purpose than money.

Tomorrow you will report to my address and work for joy, happiness. No pay. Please help me carry my tripods and drive me around on photo expeditions. After all you do not worship the normal god! =D

Why are pigs A-star scholars?

I think your literature really gone case leh! And by the way, if you look at the animal farm context, it is talking about Socialism/Communism.

We are a democracy practising meritocracy. So there is NO application for your animal farm in the first place.

Don't begrudge capable people their money lah. You can't complain about your boss's pay doesn't mean you should take it out on those people you elect. What crap is this because they are elected then they should serve with their heart (and don't care about the pay).

When those elites in the civil service start comparing their pay with their classmates working in the private sector then there will be an exodus of talent.

A lot people complain their pay is not increasing as fast as they like, about FT, about work. Too bad if you're not capable, then you have to live within your means. Don't get a car, no SCV, get the cheapest broadband, go library instead of cinema. In general, most singaporeans are better then a lot of people in other countries.

I consider myself a middle class employee. I watch my spending. I worry about my retirement and children. But I am not jealous of those who are capable and who can earn their keep. It is not as simple as replacing the ministers with less capable people (but with more heart) and the system will still work. As long as they are humble and got integrity can already...

Boohoohoo, overseas also same thing.

Of course the presidents and prime ministers earn less, but hey! They somehow can afford the big houses and ranches (think Bush) and all that jazz! So aliens must be bribing them, since there is no other explanation!

Please lah,,, Li Ka-shing did not attend school.
Both Gate and Dell are school drop out.
Do you think our Scholar MPs fit their bills?

Give me the power to tax a group of competence and hard working people, I also can excel.
