tokyoexpress....

Know what? When I read your post, I felt like you were my other half as what you wrote mirrors exactly what I would like to say!

My good buddy experienced what you wrote last year. And being an amateur photographer himself, he went thru almost a month's of searching for a good wedding photographer thinking he had found the right one. Wrong man.

He paid a few thousand dollars overall. In the end, the results were not as expected. Out of focus pics, some with important people. (And the photographer got to cheek to say it's ok. Don't print big can't see that well! DUH!)

........................
IIRC, all your good friends are so unfortunate, all the professional photographers they engaged for their wedding day are all bonkers, can even take some decent photos, even those are suppose to be the highly reputable in the industry, (AFAIK, WPJA don't anyhow accept Tom, Dick, Harry as members).

Maybe you should consider help your friends to source for reliable wedding day photographers, if worst come worst, you can even help to take their wedding photos, not to let any others of your friends encounter such misfortune again, isn't it what friends are for?

As much as these 'wedding photographers' can't shoot decent wedding photos, I think the couple has a part to be blamed too. If they have taken a look carefully at their portfolios before enganging them as their wedding photographers, I think this situation could have been avoided.

Also, if they're paying peanuts, don't expect anything more than monkeys! :bsmilie:

Of course, I've seen couples paying a lot more, but photos are still so-so only. Best is still to go through their works properly, and pay for what they can afford at a decent production.

Not difficult to shoot with mkII and Mk3 for wedding , nowsaday. it easily available from rental.. in return. Hoping to get award winning photo that will dazzel their client. Wrong!! .. Your Gear doesn not equal to your skill

Well, true, but think again. If you were in that category, you would probably walk off to have a proper lunch, dinner and to release poop. But that photographer had only 30min to do all that at 630pm.

I had heard of another chap who was told off by the sister of the groom not to sit at all during the whole AD. They were not allowed to touch food or drink on table. They didnt know the rules about class system (hint hint).
No lunch break or dinner break given. Guess what, the crew told couple they need to smoke, went off for 1.5hrs to had a good meal. Then that sister kept calling them to come back. Which they didnt do so immediately.

In the end, both videographer and photographer edited off her face in all shots. She complained, but they said they had very high expectations to save the best shot for her. unfortunately, she blinked in those shots and could not be at the right spot at the right time. LOL

Har... ''Smoke out'' is more of a stronger phase :) than "Smoke break". But then, you mean both are photographer? If both are, then one person go for a break, the other cover is more than enough. Else one photographer and one videographer is hard. And again, what an attitude from the sister, acting like big shot. Thus I think both sides, are at fault for the communication issue and the behaviour.

Talking AD photogs, I did notice my friend's wedding photographer, didnt take all the little details like we brothers' expression shouting the "3x Yum Seng" as well as the groom and us drinking (aka "顶酒") session offered from the guests. Well, I guess they know what they were doing because every photographer has his/her own way of expressions. Haven see the full sets though.

Don't asked me why I didnt take their wedding, I was working during the day that day and retired from wedding photography :)

I think you have mistaken, those cases being mention here, couples are paying few thousands dollars, so won't think it is peanut.

only one such case I encounter here, maybe one or two yeas back, a thread starter ranting about the wedding day photographers assign to him by the bridal shop, not up to par, didn't use pro body and pro lens, don't know how to shoot RAW, so he was unable to get the image files in RAW format, he claim he pay a few thousand dollars for everything.

................a few thousand dollars for everything......................

a few thousand dollars bridal package should include, one wedding grown, one tea dress, one evening grown, two man suits (day and night), hand bouquet, bridal makeup (day and night), wedding studio shoot including album, bridal car come with deco.......... last but not least, One FREE actual day photographer.

Free photographer, so it's still peanuts right? :bsmilie:

Every few months, I have heard the same things happened again and again. Somehow, its always the 'friend of the couple', 'sister of the couple' but never the couples. If the TS never name anyone or post any photos, somehow every photographers get dragged in the mud just because someone's friends(never the couples themselves) make the biggest noise always fails to hold someone responsible. Everytime, we clean ourselves up, another nameless complains soiled again........

This way, the blamed can never clear his/her name.

Yes, you have my support.

TS, list some names here, so that he/she can have a chance to clear his/her name if they think they're innocent.

you got it wrong, the photographers being mentioned here are charging few thousand dollars, according to what TS posts.

Oops...thanks for the correction bro. Then really must point out their names liao.

But hoh, back to the question on their work. If I'm the one paying for a few grand, then I would definitely like to see their work in prints and web!

I notice that in 'blaming' threads similar to this, the TS will always disappear when told to give names, show pictures, or give proof. Wonder why like that :dunno:

I use a 5D MII shell.

Inside is a 400D body.

And spray paint the Sigma lens white.

100% PRO look liao!

:bsmilie: :bsmilie:

You bought the same? Canon must be selling them like hotcakes... But I am using the coke bottle for a lens.. I just tell people the photos are artistic.. must have imagination to see it.. :)

I am sure there are many self interests being served in discussions such as these (sorry for being a bit raw on this one).

Just curious though.. if the accreditations are to be ignored, if the equipment investment are to go unnoticed (sometime ago there was a discussion about another "lousy" wedding photographer who was not using a 1.4 or 2.0 or 2.8 lens and was using only a kit lens :) ), if the portfolios go out of the window since anyone can hire a model and a studio, or attend a photoshoot (with a bikini bride? :) )..

....so how would you choose a wedding photographer?

Pls no flaming, put yourselves not in the providers shoes but in the consumers shoes.. (why would one recommend a photographer they don't know well I don't know, wished the TS would let us know)..

This chap is playing with fire, and I will stress for others not to do such things even in the face of such a customer.

Reason? By doing this, you are exposing yourself for a suit for breach of contract; whilst I doubt you can say the same against a customer who seems unreasonable, but such unreasonableness doesn't actually form part of the contract nor can be related to the same.

according to TS, TS think the photographers "can not swim".

and according to TS, couples complaint about the outcome.

so all what we can say now, we just listen to TS accordingly.

since no names being mention, all is only hearsay hearsay.....

thank goodness i use nikon

wait.... i don't shoot weddings
