LF : E6 processing process.

I am a bit sensitive to POISON because of work experience.

E6 is really not that deadly. Watch out for the fumes and make sure there are sufficient ventilation.
reduce the exposure to chemicals as much as possible.

Background:
In 2009-2010, I worked in 观澜,苏州 for Apple. We supplied equipment to them to make IPhone and IPad.
They use a lot of chemicals such as Humiseal 1B31 and others that contained Xelene.
Every time I stepped into the facility I was the ONLY ONE wearing full face mask with activated filter.
Everyone laugh at me and called me KIA SEE. I seen many idiots handled those chemicals with bare hands.

Then in the same year, one factory had 200+ cases of Poisoning in ONE day. It made it big one the news. Apple was screwed.
Many poor young men there suffer severe liver damage and received no proper compensation.
One Singapore Gun-Ho manager confirmed had liver failure (never wear mask) after he was treated in Shanghai hospital (as usual, not reported in local newspaper).
I quit the job and showed middle finger to the management even though they raised my pay.

Anyway, its a damn good thing STEVE JOB is now in HELL. NO body knows/care how much environmental damages Steve Job and Apple caused to China.

i'll be getting 1L of fujihunt E6 chemical from Knight's portion. Any idea where to get containers for that? Jobo one seems quite ex.

Lets goto Seng Cheong. I already reserved the dedicated E6 bottles from them.

is E6 chemical really fuming badly? perhaps it's time to visit 3m store to buy respirator.

No need. Its not that deadly.

However, I recommend buy the JAPANESE CARBON ACTIVATED MASK.
They are available at all GUARDIAN pharmacies.
In the SARS period these were hot. But people now totally forget again.

If you work in Jurong Island, you should have something like this:

  Reusable Respirators & Parts

yup yup. I have half face respirator that's certified to fit my face. that's why i'm thinking of getting one myself plus the OV cartridge.:bsmilie:

here is an article on darkroom safety : APOGEE PHOTO MAGAZINE: Is Your Darkroom Safe? by Michael Fulks

"The realization that I was slowly being poisoned finally came to me after I set up a darkroom in the laundry room of my house. While it was much larger than the closets and bathrooms I had used before this time, I noticed that I was only able to work for about 15 minutes at a time and then I would always begin to feel anxious and have trouble concentrating."

Kudos to Zguy for the safety.

Darkroom or not, here is a link for fellow LF who also is in charge of the house.
Not only it takes care of any gas in the house, neighbors' noxious cooking, wet bathroom, stale air in the house all taken care of.
Cost: $250 all in.

Seems like the people here also deal with other hazardous materials requiring the use of a respirator. Good that we can share safety tips. Due to my work environment handling III-V compounds, occasionally I also use half face respirator with multi-vapour cartridges together with a N100 filter.
For those who wish to use a respirator, be sure you get fit-tested by your occupational doctor or at least read the manual how to use it properly. The worse case comes when you think you are protected with the respirator but in fact your aren't because of some leaks around the mouth piece.

The important thing is ventilation and safety when handing the chemical like any other labs. If you are handling something foreign, it is always good to read up the MSDS of the chemical and any safety guide on the container before man handling the chemical.

To prevent unnecessary fears or unknowns. I went to Fujihunt's site and dig out the SDS/MSDS of all the individual E6 chemicals. The link is here Fuji Hunt Brand | Fujifilm Singapore
Refer to section 7 and 8 for usage, storage and personal protection. MSDS states that adequate ventilation is sufficient. No mention about respirators, need to use gloves and aprons for protective measures. Hope these helps for those who wish to get started.

Three Cheers to Patrick (with a glass of E6 developer) ! :)

For reference only...do at yr own risk
found this chinese document on E6 processing although not sure what kind of E6 chemicals do the china folks use : E6

At the end of the document, there is a table for the timing for room temperature processing.

for example to process at 28degree instead of 38degree, the timings are as followed:

28 degree
First Developer 18mins
Washing x2 1.5 mins
Reversal 4 mins
Color 14.5 mins
Bleach 3mins
fixer 9 mins

anyone keen to test? :p

Thanks for sharing the document. We can apply it in our next mass development meeting? :)
