[ Lens ] Olympus Announces the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm f1.8

hope this is not as heavy as the 25mm. tired of carrying it around and would still prefer 14mm (I dont have a 20mm). if this is somewhat lighter then it would definitely be a keeper lens! oh and a black color option please.

I don't know how heavy is the 25/1.4 but this should likely be of similar weight as the 12/2.0

I never heard someone complaining about the 25/1.4's weight. ;-) Is it really that heavy? I think it feels very balanced on a GX1 e.g.

Opinion is subjective. 25/1.4 is heavy for me as it is rarely used.

Really? Wow, I didn't know that.

Give you an example:

"This political party A is good because it has done many things for the country in the past and we do not have to worry."

"This political party A is always controlling the people and how things run. We want to have our way and freedom."

Aiya I think somethings we take things for granted relatively also :P

Thanks! Better yet, visit the nearest store and see a 12mm. Oh boy.. I dont want to get poisoned!

I concur with the opinion as being subjective. I moved on the m43 system bandwagon as I opted for it being compact and lightweight. That is why some would still prefer the 20mm over 25mm even though the latter produces tact sharp-er results.

Now why did I acquire the 25mm? simple, I grew up with a 50mm (35 mm format) in my hands. Im used to it.

In fact, it might be lighter than the 12/2. It's smaller than the 12/2 and the 12 is full metal. So should be lighter.

The 17/1.8 is likely to be full metal construction as well.

It will be good for street, and good for half (or full) body portraits.

I have agreed that in relationship with 14mm and 20mm, the 25mm is kind of heavy. I prefer to use the 25mm on OMD with the grip(w/o the battery pack).

Now I have dilemma. Owned a 12mm f2.0 and a 50mm f1.4(OM lens) should I get this... ...?

You can think about it when it get's announced next year.

When is this expected to come on sale?

Tempting! If it is cheaper than 12mm f2 then i will be temped! That is an useful focal length and certainly will tempt street shooters!

The product announcement is expected in the first half of 2013, so far they only announced the development.

(FT4) Christmas present: 17mm f/1.8 to hit stores in December for 550 Euro.
