Yes.. very slick click when it goes from 12-14mm

Mine is a tiny sound. You have to go to a really quiet room with the ear close to the lens to hear it

I can hear my quite clearly in a quiet place. Seems like an aperture sound. Not sure if it is normal.

My friend said his does not have any sound. Hmmm should I send it to Panasonic local agent for check ?

Have never heard a click sound when zooming :/ , 4 months with the lens already but maybe it's my hearing bad since its supposed to be a very very soft click right ?

I noticed Mine only have sound when camera is on.

If off, no sound during zooming

The click is very faint when you zoom from 12 mm to around 14-15mm. Like aperture blades clicking sound. Have to put ear next to lens in a very quiet room.

Yup, I hear one very gentle click with my ear next to the lens.
There's also one (slightly louder) when powering the cam on/off.

Sian already my click is quite audible.

Do u guys see a aperture jump , as in not a smooth closing and opening during zooming with camera on at 14mm ?

Nope mine is smooth

Something like in the video where there are certain part where it was not a linear thingy. The points coincide with the sound.

Dropped an email to Panasonic, await their reply hehe

One of the comments in YouTube gives a possible explanation.

"VerstehenVideo :
The change in the aperture blades is a part of the optical design on this type of zoom lens. The blades must be continually adjusted in order to maintain the set aperture, The problem is that the adjustment time frame is too coarse which results in the aperture varying as one is changing the focal length, for example, from set f2.8 to say, f3.2 before the stepping motor adjusts it back to f2.8 which results in abrupt exposure changes. A shorter adjustment time would likely solve the problem."

This flickering when the aperture doesn't change smoothly, has been documented..

Personally I discovered it the other day when I was shooting Dancesport.. Hmm.. Quite irritating.
One possible "workaround" from. User on dvxuser forums seems to be:

"Posting reply to my own post certainly rates as "yapping dog," to use another dvxuser's apt phrase. Nevertheless, here's a correction on optimum exposure-related settings to eliminate zoom flicker, at least under indoor incandescent lighting conditions. I reported the settings that I quoted above, incorrectly. Actually, the worst thing to do is to set AE lock to "on." You want to leave that lock off. Set exposure controls to "S" (manual shutter; I set shutter to 60, shooting Cinema 24p in the test at the link below); set exposure compensation scale all the way up to +3. Good news is, it doesn't matter where you set ISO (I think I set it around 640 in the test linked to below); that doesn't effect zoom flicker (also, zoom speed doesn't seem to matter), so you can set ISO where you like, in order to work towards the exposure look you like. Then -- wallah, Lumix 14-140 zoom with no flicker. Here's a test: http://youtu.be/fUV-aEAcM-w"

how much does this lens cost in singapore? Currently it is selling at yen 88,820. :(

I bought it for 75,900 JPY. Keep checking and buy when it drops again

the price seems to have dropped back to 75900

Some consolation to those who faced similar problem as mine.

Dear Sir,

The feedback received are as follows :-

- The clicking sound is normal.

- The sound is coming from the moving part(blades) inside the lens.

FYI

Warmest Regards

Hi All,
My 12-35 lens does have the click click noise when zooming in stills mode. If you look at the front of the lens and zoom, you can actually see a ring closing as you zoom and this is what i suspect is making the noise.

It doesn't make this noise if in active movie mode and zooming.
