[ Lens ] First review of Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 OIS

Hi All,
My 12-35 lens does have the click click noise when zooming in stills mode. If you look at the front of the lens and zoom, you can actually see a ring closing as you zoom and this is what i suspect is making the noise.

It doesn't make this noise if in active movie mode and zooming.

Cheers. At least we know it seems quite normal.

Although there seems to be a range on the loudness of the sound or the hearing of our members.

Some felt it is quite faint, some think it quite audible..

Can I ask for some opinions please?

I'm considering getting the pana 12-35mm and at the same time giving up some of my other lenses. I currently own 12/2.0, 25/1.4 and 45/1.8..

I love these lenses no question about it but I mainly use my camera when I travel. So the switching of lenses are kinda troublesome.

So I'm wondering if this lens would suit me.

I guess the question is will you miss the shallower dof that your primes can give? Also, do you shoot a lot of low light? If yes for any of these questions then I think the 12-35 would make a good addition to your lenses, not replace.

But if you answered no to each of these questions, then I think the zoom is better.

For myself, I kept both..fast primes when I need and fast zoom for all my other uses..

Buy the 12-35 and try it out. Maybe you will like it and you are willing to sell away your fast primes. If dun like it, den sell it off and I guess you wont lose too much...

I understand your dilemma. Problem is f2.8 in m43 is note really considered fast. And the lens cost as much as the entire em5 with kit lens. So if really want to get the 12-35 f2.8, you will likely still need to have 1 versatile prime which should be either oly 17/1.8, pana 20/1.7 or pana 25/1.4. Cheapest of the 3 is 20/1.7.

Ya I agree f2.8 maybe a little slow. Actually I've been thinking of the 17/f1.8 as well. But then I need to let go of some of the lenses. Which I don't know whether I can bear to let go or not. Maybe I just buy the 12-35mm see how it fits my use then decide to sell the underutilized one lor

Lol, i have the same dilemma as you, with a 12, 20, 45 and also the 14-54II.
Planning to trade out the 12, 20 and the 14-54II to streamline the lens lineup, and will keep the 45 for portrait.

Think we all has similar dilemmas :)
I got the 12-35 , traded off the 20 / 1.7 and the 45 and kept the 17/1.8 for cases when I wana travel light in e end.

After some time, i also got the 14 as another option for light travel so now its 12-35, 14 and 17/1.8. I do miss the 45 at times though.
