[ Lens ] First review of Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 OIS

Doubt it, so far all Lumix G lenses (if Panny actually makes one for them) have the lens hood included.

EDIT: I don't see Panasonic mentioning 'weather sealing' anywhere in their press release.

Ya, no weathersealing. I think it is just additional protection to make it less vunerable to dust and rain. It is a notch down from the 43 12-35/2.0. Therefore I will still keep my 12-50 from Olympus for the weather sealing and video record zooming feature.

So I guess Panny isn't planning to release a weather sealed body at all.

The lens is dust and splash proof, same as OMD

You're right! From the Panny press release:

Additionally with a rubber ring on the lens mount, the new lens is designed to stand up against splash and dust making it ideal for outdoor photography enthusiasts.

hmmm I'm concern when the lens is extended, will it still dust/splash proof?

Panasonic says so but I'm a bit disappointed it doesn't have internal focusing.

I dont see it as a problem for weathersealing, the HG lenses from 4/3 (12-60, 50-200) are also extending and weather sealed. its probably not as good as weather sealed lenses with internal zoom.

It's probably a trade-off to achieve a more compact size which kinda makes sense to me, since m4/3 is about smaller and lighter gear.

One of the stores here (sorry not saying who) told me the lens *might* be coming end of this month despite the August date in the press release! Woah! I hope it's true.

Did you have to sign a NDA?

Someone asked me about the pricing, his/her message box full lah, so I post it here for everyone.

Got EURO1100, USD1200 and 999 Pounds pricing given all over the websites.

UK = 999 pounds = SGD2000, minus VAT (20%) in UK = SGD1600 + GST = SGD1712.

1100 EURO = USD1200 (normally) = SGD1560 + GST = SGD1669

Lets say Euro tax is 10% (very low liao, depends also on country), 1100euro means 1000euro before tax = SGD1650+/- plus GST = SGD1765+/-

If Euro tax is 15%, then 1100euro/1.15 = SGD1578 + GST = SGD1688

I normally follow UK pricing. Since RRP is about SGD1699, street price is 85% normally 1-2 months after launch. Initial launch might be near RRP.

Some people say less, then less lor.

Yeah, it is better than to have a longer lens like the 12-50 that seems so fragile..... haha

Finally a nice, bright zoom lens for the m43.

Interesting. I don't even know this!

Anyhows Clubsnap has a copy of the lens, they'd be posting real soon on it =)

since this lens is not internal focusing, wonder how it looks when extended out.

Thanks for the math :)

If the lens really turns out to be too expensive, I will just stick with the 12-50 or 14-54mm mk2 HG lens and pair with a prime. F2.8 is good but not worth $1700 to me...

Street price may be around $1450 - $1500 based on 85% - 90% RRP pricing guide consider that 12/2.0 is already $1050. The worthness to me is the high quality wide open at wide angle plus very good quality at tele end.
