[ Lens ] First review of Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 OIS

Ok for me, 12-35mm is quite versatile, rich in colour rendition and produces good IQ within 12 to 35mm with good bokeh. Also "24-hour" lens throughout dawn to midnight. It is my honest opinion.

Cannot agree more.

mixed responses

@iise7en so in your opinions, paying a premium for the 12-35mm over primes is justifiable?

@diddy what primes do you recommend for travel use? i dun think i'd keep switching lens unless i need lots of zoom, which i'll use 40-150 kit lens

For me, I will go for 12-35mm for travel use.
use prime when you have more time to think or not in rush, eg. shooting show girl, baby or etc.

12-35mm is on my OM-D most of the time.... I change to 25mm when I need the 1.4 or 60mm when I need to take macro or the reach.... but also eyeing the 35-100.... believe 12-35 and 35-100 is a "lethal" combo... in terms of $$$$ from the pocket.... :embrass::sweat:

I would recommend 25mm for the 1.4 when you need it, when u want to take a specific thing like a flower (e.g. cherry blossom in Japan) and 75mm 1.8 when u need the reach.

But I also agree with others that for travel 12-35 is one of the best choice cos most of the time u snap and go and wouldn't be too bothered about bokeh.

I prefer using my 14-140 for travel to cover longer range but have to compromise size and abit of IQ :(

The 14-140 ain't that bad :) it's the only one of the "older" lenses that I still keep n use in travels.

hmm.. bokeh aside.. in terms of IQ does 12-35mm beat primes?

As good as in most cases.

best thing is that this is with VC, and almost half the weight of the pany 14-140. hopefully its a good alternative to the all-rounder pany lens which is heavier.

is S$1,260 consider cheap? whats the cheapest people got it for?

saw someone got it from JP below SGD 1100.. SGD 10XX

thats cheap

Around $11xx will be a reasonable price now, and of course this is referring to when buying the lens overseas. Local wise don't think the prices changed much , prob still hitting $1.5~1.6k

just curious , is using lens with OIS turned on as good as using OMD's IBIS?

I find the camera IBIS better

Yes I agree! Unless you are using non-IBIS camera like GH2,GH3,etc, then OIS would come in handy. That's why I love my OMD to the core.
