Leica Q Type 116 - fixed lens 1.7/28 and full frame camera!

Congrats. Looks like it is really difficult to secure one.

I like the user friendly operations of the leica. I'm used to using 20mm on m4/3 which is 40mm. I would love to try out the fast lens that comes with the leica. I also think that the pop out evf have a much higher chance of damage due to the mechanical parts. I like almost everything about leica except, the bigger footprint. Also have concerns about the IQ. Any views on this? As compared to the new sony sensor. Also how about the image processing.

Focal length is everything. I used to tried 28mm, but realise I am intruding the scene hence the need to step back.
Do a little experiment, own both 28mm and 35mm lenses and see which one you often take with you.
I realised I need both, in taiwan I shot 28mm only and that is ideal there, while in indonesia, I found it a lot challenging.
However, I think if you like the operations of Leica camera, this is it. Short focus throw, peaking is decently accurate from F4. I just wish it's heavier... and so My angelo pelle case arrived yesterday to make it thicker and bulkier, but no camera :p

I think the following consideration is important too:
Q =
24mp @ 28mm
15mp @35mm (almost no difference to X100's)
8mp @ 50mm (A4 prints)

RX1 II
42mp @ 35mm
18mp @ 50mm (Better than X100's with teleconvertor yet smaller)
10mp @ 70mm (estimate based on 2 stop down)

If you use 28/35, Q is a good choice.
If you are going to shoot 35/50, then it's the rx1r II

I am sure the Sony sensor is better based on a7r ii, but that to me, is secondary compare to what I can do with the focal length, which affects your picture taking process much more in documentary photography.

thks .. I will try to call them on this.
I did a Google search for this topic and it did come up and yes there have been complaints and lots of debate and theories on the scratched EVF...
specs definitely the cause of it due to shallow eye cup.. the glasses we wear is concave with radius of curvature so the point of contact causes the abrasion.

Hi,

Any update on whether Leica SG will do anything for scratches on the EVF?

The price in airport is taxfree...
so I can say after the VAT refund...

That is a very steep price, more than what Singapore retail charges with GST. EU less VAT price should be ~EUR3,300.

Aus selling for AUD$5600 before 9% tax refund. Waiting time 3 months :( seems like good deal. Only about SGD$5000 after refund and use CC still can get miles or points or cash rebate for overseas purchase. Only worry is warranty.

Hi, anyone here using the Q original grip only. Can share with us why you prefer the grip?

Cheers!

collecting my Q tomorrow. Instead of 2 months, it's just a 2 1/2 weeks wait.
Click seem to have limited ready stock. Anyone interested, thats the place.

Quite a substantial amount of stock coming in, look forward to street prices.

Yup. Seems like those on the waiting list, if there is still one, will have theirs pretty soon. Think the supply has finally caught up with the demand
