Leica Q Type 116 - fixed lens 1.7/28 and full frame camera!

Bought it yesterday.
Really does feel like an M.
Great feel and responsive.
Price is relative.
Compared to an M, it's priced reasonably with great specs and IQ.
Think Leica has a winner here.

Hope to see some jpeg out of camera unprocessed images. The dynamic range for night shots seemed fantastic looking at some of the review pictures via viewing through a 46" Samsung TV but I don't know how much processing was done.

I think this camera indicates how serious Leica is with adapting to the digital age.
28mm + crop mode makes sense as if you crop to 35mm, you still have a lot of file. 35mm will be irreversible.

But the biggest selling point for me is the very intelligent Af/MF toggle. Though i will not buy it because it is a evf.

It is a interesting time for leica i think! I strongly believe there is a possibility we might see a slightly cheaper m with a evf in the future. Like fuji with the xpro1 and xe.

Just dropped by the Leica shop at Ion - apparently they've sold out their first batch of Leica Qs, with the next batch coming in July

Just some photos to feed the lust...

Was lucky enough to pick up the Last set from ION orchard last Friday. Finally caught some little time to walk around town with Clear Blue Sky.

Some gotchas to watch out:
* Activating Macro mode fixes the max Aperture to F2.8, even if physically you set the ring to F1.7. Many of the wonderful review sites seem to miss out this important detail (on purpose?)
* Check out this thread about the true nature of the Lens Design:

Seems like the actual lens itself doesnt cover the full frame, but rather does some digital correction to the otherwise distorted RAW information.
For some reason in Lightroom, there is no way to bring back the original uncorrected (distorted) DNG image, but in Picasa you can see it.
* No accesories yet..the camera is now naked, with no leather jacket/ LCD protector tried some third party ones but doesn't really fit. Need to wait some time before third party accessories come out
* Autofocus is fast, but Previewing Image is soo sloow..even i use 200MB/s Ultra SD card, fast to write, but slow to preview..I hope this is fixed in future firmware

Other than that, I'm happy enough with this camera, and I think it will be a long lasting relationship with thousands of wonderful photos to come
Previously was saving for an M240/P body and a 28 equivalent, but oh my god, this camera , crazy expensive as it sounds, its a steal compared to M240 + 28 Summicron or Summilux equivalent!

I checked some of the photos i took, and I was shocked to see that in Picasa, when you see the original PNG Raw file, the image is heavily distorted and there are some vignetting!
I read somewhere the line of 7-12% of image information was lost due to cropping to fit the correct perspective. Resolution of the original file was 6016x4016 pixels as opposed to 6000x4000 for the processed one.

The funny thing is, the original uncorrected file can never be recovered in Lightroom/ Photoshop, some profiles are automatically applied to fix the issue.

Anyone knows which Raw converter can disable lens correction?

Let's not get confused. Are you referring to curvilinear distortion i.e. barrel distortion or perspective distortion. Your photographs showed both but you only mentioned about perspective distortion.

Yes, there are demo sets to try in the Leica shops. I've tested them in Vivocity and Ion.
