Laos rejoiced

11. children like to look at buses that runs past the dusty new roads in the northwestern linking luang prabang to thailand's border. the late afternoon golden ray casts through some clouds and created differential lighting on the different kid that spaced themselves out. i like the small gorilla. ;)

well, i think i can't really follow a chronological order neither a place-by-place order, cos i can't wait to show my favorite picture in this trip. Wat Si Muang, in vientiane. another door open to another hall for worshipping

senior monk on the way from luang namtha to muangsing. His surname is Lim and is of Han descent (over a few generations in Laos) via Yunnan. He speaks Mandarin too. Yunnanese and Chinese are not uncommonly seen in Laos.

the jump at Nam Lik River near Vang Vieng. basically it is a place where people goes on a ladder to a high point, gets onto this flying fox thingy that goes over the river, and perhaps from a self-estimated height of maybe 10-20m let go and drop themselves plunging into the river.

p.s. this is not taken by a DSLR, but by a fujifilm F11 pns as we are doing canoeing before this. i find it difficult to compose with a pns and had a serious tilt losing itself to a bad crop and some desperate cloning which is very clear on the top right.

and yah, i noticed of the distracting elements behind but i'm too engrossed at capturing the doggie's expression that i couldn't care much at that moment. i think his or her expression looks more interesting than when the local people look at us. and he or she stare at me for as long as i'm on the ground.

one of the diagram on a poster at Luang Nam Tha's bus terminal. gives an idea of what is expected of foreigners on their land. it is drawn in fisheye wide low-angle, very photographic....

Luang Prabang, monks from Wat Sirimounkhoun coming out daily in the morning to ask for alms. they come out very early from about 5am when it is still dark. without a flash and with bad luck of the route, i only managed to get decent shots at close to 7 or slightly later than 7 where the bright day light is more than what the sensor handles. i can't remember if i used a graduated filter to suppress that, but it is unlikely to cope with the tonal contrast either and may give a bad gradation.

black pigs at nam dae mai. it is pretty sorry that we have a wonderful lighting and great scenes, but the people there seems quite unfriendly and some of them wanted money, esp with some of the kids that are rowdy and rude. most time we have very good impression of laotians, but this place spoiled our mood. we move over the place very fast and shot only animals.
