dark hazy & super dusty late afternoon along the bus route from vang vieng to luang prabang. the colors of the sky are brought out by a graduated neutral density filter, and post processed with some darkening.

i am planning a trip to Laos soon, perhaps u can share your itinerary and mode of travel from point A to B? thanks!!!

you can get a lonely planet, not too thick and easy to carry around.

i can't rem most details. but as mentioned, there is no train, which leaves the option by road or by water. as my friends do not want 2 days on boat, we did not go on mekong.

we did a northern laos trip from south to north. flew bangkok, train to nongkhai, tut tut cross the border to vientianne, then buses in between to vang vieng, luang prabang, and then via udomxai and luang namtha to muangsing. buses mostly take off from the early morning from 7am till 11am, as it takes often 5-14hrs depending on how far u go, it is very slow and dusty for even short distances. when we do short excursions, we sometimes negotiate with tut tut for a to-and-fro or half day trip. you may need to check on the ground regarding schedules and be prepared to change your itinerary, e.g. stay over 1 more day depending on bus time.

we spend 2 nights for each of the above locations, and only 1 night for luang namtha and vientainne. luang prabang we spent 4 days.

monk smoking at the udomxai bus terminal. it is not uncommon to see novice monks (doing it out of obligation like our national service)

Excellent shots. I have throughly enjoyed all the photos.

Having only started photography since August 2006 with a point and shoot, I have graduated to an Olympus SP550UZ last month and your photos encourages me to improve my beginner's shots.

thanks. dun worry, everyone have a learning curve. who knows if i'm going to get saturated soon....

kids at ban na oune. somehow they are laughing all around, with the kids trying to stop the mr. little act cute from acting cute, hence they covered his eyes. at the same time, they started to look into another direction, makes me wonder if there is a UFO flying behind me....
