T R A V E L O G U E - Laos Feb 2010
I would like to just contribute here a short little travel log so that we may remember what we did and where we were.
This is definitely not meant to be exhaustive. But serves just as small little notes.
Feel free to add into whatever you feel is interesting and would be memories to be cherished.
Day 1: KL - Vientiane - Luang Prabang
KL to Vientiane was smooth sailing.
Waiting at Vientiane's Wattay Airport - well, nothing much to do there except to eat US$5 maggi noodle and friend rice at the International lobby.
Stevepow was clever. He ate at the much cheaper local Laos stall at the Domestic lobby - some spicy spicy friend noodle - right?
Vientiane to Luang Prabang - now that was something!
First time taking a Properller Plane.
It looks like this.

All of us sat staring at the Propellers in awe.
Then it started turning. Like this:
D1-02
The noise was deafening. I couldn't hear myself talking (what IR filter) to Rudy, who was trying his best to squeeze his 100kg frame into the tiny seat beside me.
Then we took off.
And more than once, the sensation of weight-less-ness was gripping us in the groins.
The Propeller became like this (with CPL) as we reached the altitude of 13,000 ft:

And the worse part was when we approached Luang Prabang 45 minutes later.
The hilly terrrain meant that the turbulence was much more pronounced.
And many of us had our hearts in our mouths when the small plane banked left and right to negotiate its route.
Reached Luang Prabang Airport in one piece.
And loaded all our checked-in luggages onto the pickup that came to welcome us.
D1-04
We were all happy to reach our accommodation at the heart of Luang Prabang - the New Daraphet Villa.
It's certainly a much newer and nicer place than some of the other Guesthouses around.
it's got air con. Every room has its private bathroom. And it has free wireless internet.
Just that in order to use the internet, we all got to be out at the common area.
But heck - it was a good way to mix around and TCSS.
Convenient place this was. A short walk out would bring us to the Royal Palace Museum and Mount Phousi.
