L A O S - Luang Prabang

James... come! Ga ga post! Lai lai lai!
Every person's photo is a contribution to our whole team's travelogue.
No spoil or what... hahaha...
Everyone is putting in liao lor.... kekeke...

k, give me some time, I go review my photos again and figure out which website to host my photos. ;)

So finally, there we all were, at around 5:30pm, about 10 minutes away from New Daraphet Villa, walking along the Mekong River.
The evening sun was very slowly setting to our left side.
The Mekong bank was below us down a slope of dirt track about 10 metres down.
There was not too much volume in the Mekong. And the bank was just muddied ground.
Only today after I read the Straits Times did it occur to me that the Mekong is at its lowest level in years due to drought and China's dam project further upstream.

And that is why if you link back to the following two photos by vngks and SereneXMM, you will find evidence of this in their Mekong Sunset photos:

vngks's Mekong Sunset - http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5924587&postcount=1
SereneXMM's Mekong Sunset - http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5925091&postcount=19

T R A V E L O G U E - Continued.
Continuing with my record/snap shots of our team's trip.
These shots are truly simply meant for record purpose so that all of us may come back and look at them anytime to refresh our memories.
Fellows, meanwhile, whatever you all have just please post up here.
My small little record will move along slowly by itself one. Thanks!

Day 2

Luckily at LPB, the sunrises were nothing spectacular.
Thus we were all spared sunrise shoots, and could all sleep till a little later. Heng ah.
8 am - we found ourselves walking at high speed along Khem Khong Road, that 'main' road along Mekong River,
towards the Boat Landing just behind the back door of the Royal Palace Museum.
And here is a view of the back wall of the Royal Palace Museum.

What met our eyes was an interesting sight. Rows of slowboats moored side by side, waiting for business to come.
Well, I have read about the Slowboats on the Mekong. But I've never actually seen one.
Apparently there are Fastboats and Slowboats. But the Slowboats are supposed to be the more enjoyable way of travel on this famous river.

For any viewers who have never been to LPB and have always wondered how a Boat Landing looked like, here it is.
This is how the Slowboats landed so that we may land ourselves onto the Slowboats (keke..)...

Some views from our Slowboat Cruise on the Mekong River.

This is a record shot of a solitary Slowboat. Thus it obeys no rules of thirds. Kekeke....

Our team members were all busy firing away.
Therefore it is a fact that my fellow travellers have in their collections, heaps of great Mekong photos.
So I am just waiting for everyone's photos of the scenery on the Mekong River to be posted.

Brother Limwhow, I must have missed out all the fun.....;)

Brother Scanner!
Hehe... well, there is always another time :D.
But I will always remember, as I am sure SereneXMM, vngks and AlexK will too, our fun in Java... right?
Thanks for dropping by!

Day 2 - continued

Fishermen on the Mekong. A common sight, these fishermen are.

Again, sad to hear about their plights from today's Straits Times (9th Mar 2010).
Ever since the level of the Mekong River has dropped, their catches have dwindled significantly.

Thus, no matter how many times this kind fellow throws his net, all of us on this trip are going to end up
with a fewer number of Mekong fish on our dining tables during the trip.

Good news is, for those of us who are always on the Go, even on the Slowboat right in the middle of Mekong River,
we can be assured of fantastic mobile phone signals... as our good brother AlexK has positively demonstrated....

If anyone read the Lonely Planet thoroughly, he would find the name Ban Xiang Hai mentioned to death.
And indeed, after about 45mins on the Slowboat, we came upon this quaint little village.
Another type of Boat Landing awaited us...

Haha... the kind of Boat Landing that a few of us actually enjoyed walking on...
Look at that smile on Imran's and Mr Double-R-Strap (LL)'s faces!

Ban Xiang Hai is a very sleepy little village up on the slope off Mekong, made up of a few tens of thatched-roof houses.
It is famous for brewing the local rice wines.

The Ban Xiang Hai red wines are about 15% and are quite ok. But the white wines are 55% and are killers.
I didn't touch any. But many of you guys have tasted both and have given your verdicts!

But personally, I found the Ban Xiang Hai babies a very docile, and good-to-carry bunch of babies!
(As demonstrated here by SP...)

Hi limwhow,

You're being too modest to begin with.

Seems like everyone of us is zeroing on this Merc and I even did place 4D bet on '1298' for last Wed and yesterday

Probably this is the first time seeing a plate number begining with zero zero.
And it's yesterday 4D's first price .... heart pain ...argh...

Very cool photo of the old Mercedes and Citroen Traction Avant. Looks like you guys had alot of fun.

Thanks K3N for letting us know it's a Citroen. Can't figure out the brand of this vintage till you mentioned it.

Thanks :). I'm kinda a fan of Citroen (other brands too). You can identify the car with its two upward arrows on the grille. The logo is still used on today's cars but its much smaller.

Hi all,

I had a great time in Laos and thanks to all who shared their tips and experiences on taking better photographs. You guys have the honour of being the first to bring me out of hiding and submitting my first post on this forum.

Looking through all the great photos posted so far, I'm suprised the icon of Luang Prabang has not been posted yet. So here he is......

Hey toolbox22!
Yupe, this wonderful shot of the ever-present resident of Sisavangvong Road.

Proof that technology is pervasive. It was not very difficult to spot a local SMSing away in Luang Prabang. I assume they were texting in Lao.

Come come post more to share

Cheers

To elaborate more on limwhow's travelogue here's the 'distillery' for you people to digest

Stevepow, I actually missed seeing these distilleries... :bsmilie:
Maybe if I had seen them I may think thrice about buying my bottle of red Lao wine for US$3... haha...
