[kuantoh] Victoria Road Trip 2010

#56 - View from trail up Mount William Lookout. Notice the way the shadows of the clouds fall upon the ranges. This view is more breathtaking seen than shot.

#58 - These kangaroos are all over the place in Brambuk National Park, eating and eating among the vibrant yellows.

#59 - A visit to the Grampians is never complete without visiting the MacKenzie Falls. One of the most scenic falls in Grampians, the walk to the base was a steep descend of a few hundred meters but the we are welcomed by the resounding falls crashing down. The rock sort of resemble a dog's head in the midst of the waters.

#60 - A miniature effect of the trail down to MacKenzie Falls. What you see where the people are is the head of the falls. It's another hundred meter descend from there to the base. Going down is easy, the way up was huff and puff.

I am flattered by your comments. Just sharing my experiences with others where others have done and shared with me theirs too. :D

how much did u spend for this trip btw? and how many days?

Awesome series you amassed from your trip KT

Enjoy every single shot, especially the Great Ocean Road series.

Was there back in 2002, but knew nuts about photography back then :bsmilie: Looking through your wonderful series certainly brought back plenty of memories. Melbourne is some place that me and my wife would like to visit again sometime soon.

Thanks again for sharing KT! ;)

Excluding my pre-wedding shoot expenses, this trip cost for 2 pax over 12 days was about $5.6k.

Just sharing some of the cost breakdown forecast prior to the trip which turned out to be close to our actual expenses:

Air ticket: $1504.60 (Emirates Air x 2)
Accomodation: $1607.30 (11 nights, mainly cottages, self contained apartments)
Hertz Car Rental + Petrol: $970 (11 days | 1400km)
Food & Wine: $700
Scenic Fees, Shopping, Others: $800

We splurged on wine and food mostly were home cooked (coz I admit I quite good cook :embrass:) but there are times we dine out. I still remember we had a breakfast for 40 bucks at Port Campbell. Haha...

wow... your spending is much cheaper then mine... i went with my parents... cost me about almost how much you spent for 12 days!

Air Tix by SQ for 3 = $2.7+k
Accomodation for 5 nights = $1.3k (service apartment at Docklands)
Land tours for 3 days = $1-1.1k plus
Food/Expenses for 5 days = $1.2k plus

Thanks! Glad it does brought back some fond memories.

Haha... I did travel to some other places with point and shoot blindlessly last time. Everyone has their history and if the place is worth visiting, do not hesistate to revisit again as long as time and finance permits.

Self drive is the way to go. But I did take up one land tour back in 2005 when I did my Western Australia trip with DiscoveryWest before and I quite like the way tours are organised in Aussie. Very professional service, the driver is the guide and cook and entertainer. We cooked our own meals in the open and had picnics. Really fresh experience.

Anyway, I did the planning in my free time slowly over the past 8months, so I lookout for cheap airfares along time and booked my tix 3 months ahead. As for the car rental, Hertz always have promotions with Krisflyer etc now and then so i grabbed the 10% discount when it was valid. As for accomodation, I would refer to wotif.com, agoda.com and takeabreak.com.au to compare the deals. wotif.com, in particular, will have those weekly specials or hot deals that will give 30-50% off accomodation.

As for the rest, it's pretty standard. :)

very nice waterfall.

did you do a sloppy job of exposure blending for this one, that rock and those trees on the right are looking very patchy to me. :dunno: the trees could be attributed to vignetting i suppose (though i don't see it much anywhere else, perhaps due to cropping).

I suppose patchy refers some dark areas here and there? My bad for the trees on the top right. I pulled back the exposure a bit due to vignetting. No crop was done to the pic. As for the rock, the shadow is due to the light falling on the tree behind me and i thought it gave the "eyes" and "ears" and a mysterious feel to the dog head. lol...

yes, that is correct.

ah, yes, that explains it.

Great series of photos  You must have really enjoyed yourself :)

Especially loved the Great Ocean Road ones. Looks like you got really great weather while you were there too! (It was overcast while I was there :/)

Indeed... It was a really nice drive, for me at least. My fiance was sleeping most of the time in the passenger seat. She was complaining the road very winding here and there. :bsmilie:

Weather was clear for most days, which I was lucky. I would have hope for more clouds on the day i took 12 Apostles as i think it look better in the stormy conditions. lol...
