Konica-Minolta sold to SONY!--big news!!!

like memory stick story, sony will anounce they still use KM mount, but must use sony made new KM lens or new sony-zeiss lens. old lens can not lah,,,, something else. sony only want to make money in the market.--so many testimony there.

This piece of info confirmed that existing lens still works on the new Sony DSLR..

"Sony is planning to develop digital SLR cameras compatible with Maxxum/Dynax lens mount system, so that the current Maxxum/Dynax users will be able to continue to use them with Sony’s digital SLR cameras. In addition, we will consign camera service operations for Konica Minolta, Konica,Minolta brand cameras and related equipment to Sony."

Sony wouldn't be that stupid to buy a plastic bag full of junk......hei....they bought over a chunk of good technology probably.....at a reasonable price..... and have them to be used to complement their r&d workforce...

Not that they got the whole KM....but only the photography part...

Samsung just rebadged the latest Pentax dSLR, Pentax DA 18-55mm and DA 50-200mm lenses (without Pentax' SMC coating), plus Pentax AF360 flash. These will be sold under Samsung's name. Well, at least Pentax is still making and selling their own dSLR cameras and DA lenses, but I don't know how long it's gonna last before Pentax shift all their camera and photo bussiness to Samsung :think:

Now KM are selling all their camera and photo business to Sony. I guess the current KM 7D and 5D will have new names after 1/4/6

In the future, it'll be C vs N, and S(ony) vs S(amsung) :dunno:

Sony is expensive (and not always good) ...

Samsung is cheap (but not always bad) ...

It's a cruel world

I think this is sad news for Minolta users... Sony is no doubt an industry giant but many of the ideals and spirit of camera development as epitomised by Minolta (that is why we liked Minolta in the first place) will surely be lost when they sell their camera division to Sony.

First of all, I feel that Sony has always introduced products with the most fanciful features built in the tiniest and prettiest bodies... however, often such devices does not last long because durability sometimes decrease with complexity. I have long lost faith in Sony since I bought 3 CD-Players (1 Hi-fi set, 2 discmans) that failed immediately after the warranty period.. maybe I am unlucky, or their laser-optical technology sucks (each of the 3 times the cd laser lens failed). On the other, my philips-cheapo-feature-less cd player lasted at least 10 times more....

got to agree with this...i used to have lots of Sony's product...from digicam, phone, PDA, discman, walkman, TV and DVD-writer....however, they always die just after warranty expired.

I do like the design and innovation that Sony put in, let's hope the SKM will make some solid product to fight with C & N.

Sony discman - stolen b4 1 year
Sony trinitron - checked 3 weeks b4 warranty expire... died...
T68i - dusty, battery 1/2 dead...
T610 - same
F828 - dust inside go repair, den they terminate my warranty b4 warranty ended...

technically... i bought my camera from pre order from sony promo. then the camera came 1+ month later, suppose to be in 1 or 2 weeks...

then somehow there is hair type dust in my viewfinder, so i send in, the guy told me to live with it, i got very pissed... so i insist on changing, then they on the day i get back, i show them my receipt from the preorder, they said my warranty ended, and i saw another tiny spec inside, so if i was to clean again, i'll cost money... i got pissed... so i email to their japan CS, telling them about the incident... they extend my warranty for 3 month, but i am so pissed, i dun wanna go waste my time there again... not cheap thou, wisma parking & entering CBD.

anyway, not the 1st time Sony did that as well... my trinitron also... took 2 months to repair until over warranty and ask me to pay money for repair... sucks... so until u go complain to their japan CS, they will make sure something is done... and its like the japan side is very fast... once u email, 1/2 a day later they will make sure singapore CS call u...

I got many Sony at home too! So far they all serve me well, except CD-ROM drive.. Died 2 times (after replacing).. So no Sony CD-ROM for me! But the rest are okay.

Mya be can pay them the charge first then later complain and ask for refund. There is some risk involve though.

But it really don't make sense to me some things as you mentioned (in term of service) can happened.

I still think this is good news. Look at it this way 10 years down the road and people will be talking "Hey try to get your hands on the 5D or 7D. It's hard to find it nowadays. They don't make it like they used to"haha. Just thinking aloud here. But seriously I really don't think Sony is going to make any drastic changes to the KM system. There are tens of thousand of customers that they have to think about. They will still need to service these customers. Why throw away something that is already working fine. But you certainly can improve on it.
