sony is just good at marketing. as for durability of their products, i'll reserve comment except to say i no longer use a single sony product (except the accidental component made by them). lets hope they don't mess up the KM line.
my product speculations on Sony's strategy:
- offer existing km users a trade-in (got to pay of course, how else you think they pay for their marketing budget hah?) for the new "Sony" DSLR, which may be the fabled 9D

- modify the 9D and future DSLR line to work with existing KM lenses, but somehow our 7d, 5d, entire range of slrs won't work with the new lenses...
- offer a time-expired service (after calculating warranties of last units sold) for say 2 years, within that time you can take option 1, thereafter your KM becomes a collector's item.
why? because it doesn't make sense to merge, and support two competing business lines. that's poor business economics. and large corporations are only after the bottom line. of course its just my post-shock knee-jerk reaction to the announcement. but as wisdom normally prevails, lets just sit it out, no, lets get out there and do what we do!! and then lets see what happens. just pray i'm not right.
names? how about Sonica, named after whatcamacallit that Sega hedgehog? talk about rubbing dirt in someone's face - remember how the PS destroyed Sega? ah sososososo... weee will calls it eh... sokomo, hai! sorry my japanese friends, no offence meant. but since sony isn't really much of a japanese corp anymore (US senior management control?), then maybe they will just call it a Sonita. yeeeee...... hair stand...
