KM or Sony service center?

I went to Sony service center before to get my phone repaired. The screen was gone as I had drop the phone. They told come back in a few hours to collect it. Service was much better than Nokia. I'm curious my CCD for my Dynax 5D has a dust speck. Do think they will clean it for free. The camera is still under warranty.

how about try cleaning it with a blower? save a trip haha

Try blowing it already. The speck seems stuck there. Anyway my office is at Orchard Road so no problem.

when it was still minolta, they did it free for me  , now with sony, i am not sure loh..
:dunno:

Time check, 11.25am.

I walked into the Sony gallery. It was pretty huge. Thinking that the service center might be all the way at the back, I walked in. Sure enough, it was.

The service center is located behind Sony Ericson's service center.

I walked in and it was pretty empty. Sat down and took out my lens. Saw the ticketing thingy and saw a signboard, with the green label, for Konica Minolta.

Got my queue number and sat down. Initially, there were about 3 people there, with three open counters. One of the open counters got the label Konica Minolta (km).

Set down and after 10 minutes, my number was called. A young man served me.

I told him that I wanted to send my lens in for fungus cleaning. He said nothing and took a look at my lens. The first thing he did was to take off my front cap and look through it (not the usual way of checking fungus). He then took out the rear end cap, and again looked through the lens (again, not the usual way to check for fungus).

He then tried to put back the rear end cap. He tried turning and turning but nothing worked. I wanted to show him How to do it. But then again, he was sitting at the km counter. Finally he got it in with no force at all.

From the time I sat down, till the time he tried putting back my rear end cap, he said nothing to me.

He finally broke the silence by asking my postal code, my name and contact number. Next, he got up and asked me to check the information that I gave him. I don’t remember him asking for my address, but it was there.

I asked if I could collect my lens at they IMM branch. With a “I cant help it” look, he shook his head and said no.

So after signing the piece of paper, he said to bring that paper upon collection. They will give me a call when it’s ready. I asked, is that all, and he said Yes. So I walked out.

Overall, I would rate the service 6 over 10. To me the service is not that good. I would prefer HP's service center anytime (apart from the free food: P) but its good that at lease he is not rude. Sometimes, more interaction with the customer would be dope. I really felt bored sitting there. Plus, my phone hung on me, adding more salt to the bored wound.

Will post my receipt and queue number later.

It’s a Sony man.

Thanks for recounting of your experience. Keep us posted for the cost of lens cleaning and turnaround time. ;p

Did they give you an estimate on the cost for cleaning?

Before that, I called them up, and they said that fungus cleaning would be aroung $60(If I heard correctly, and ofcourse with nothing changed). I was on a tight budget, and I was considering where to send my lens to.

1)TCW - $68
2)P&G - $80++
3)Sony $60

I mean sending it to Sony would be reliable I guess.

And like I said, the dude was pretty quiet. , which I wondered why.

But say if its expensive, on the Repair Cert, it says that

7. A fee of S$10 will be charged if the set is found to have no fault or the customer decides not to repair the article after estimation.

tm13

Probably new staff. Anyway once Sony settles down with Minolta camera I think the service should improve.

not that I am skeptical, but if they are not willing to quote me a battery price......can we expect more?....but for the sake of all KM users, i do hope they change....for the premium that they charge for most of their product, more needs to be done:thumbsd:

Hmmm... judging fr the remarks stated here, looks like Sony SC ain't tt "friendly" to KM folks siah (for the time being?)...

Got some dust specks stuck inside the rear side of my 18-70mm kit lens (dunno how it got in & can't blow it out, visible to the eye but doesn't seem to affect image thou). Am thinking of sending it for some cleaning... Looks like I better put on hold 1st... Does the Sony SC @ Wisma take in items? IMM is way too far for me...

They do. I sent in my 35-70mm lens there. My advise is that do get ready another lens for your camera. I was told it might take a week to have the fungus cleaned. And I think they do not have the reseources yet to just clean dust specs on the spot.

Usually photo labs have right? I know there are two photo labs there, one at Yew Tee, one at Limbang. For Limbang, don't have. P.S you live around Lot 1/Yew Tee?

sounds like they should rename the place Zombie Service Centre... after reading all these experiences, i'm going to hold back sending in my 5D, will live with the stupid shutter lock-up problem for the time being... *shudder*

Update:

As I am still schooling, and my school dont allow no one to bring they handphones to school, I passed my phone to my sister to the calls. So today she got the call and

Sony said that the aperture thingy is faulty/spoilt(Ask if its the aperture lever, she said no, aperture blades she said no, then what is it, anyone got any idea?). They are not going to repair it because its discountined. And, here comes the nice part.

They are not even going to clean the fungus for me, since the aperture thingy is spoilt.

After one week, then only you tell me its spoilt, and that you are not going to repair it?

My sister asked them if they could bring the lens to their IMM branch, since its closer. They said they will call back to confirm.

Yay-ness.

The thing I wonder is that, whats spoilt? Before sending it for servicing, I shot 2 rolls of film, and pictures turned out beatiful! I wonder, will the fungus effect the pictue? Sample picture is:
