K-30 Hands-on Review on Pentax Singapore Facebook ...

Comparing w/ EOS 600D or Nikon D5100, K-30 is a nobrainer imo. It got weather sealed body (very important here in SG, but I guess you know that), inbody shake reduction, 100% coverage pentaprism viewfinder (so much bigger than those in 600D/5100D which are penta-mirrors w/ less coverage and magnification), two e-dials (the other two cameras only got one e-dial), auto focus adjustment for up to 20 lenses ... And all these features only mid to pro level cameras have while most entry level cameras are lagging. But you are getting them all in a small and compact K-30 :)

Don't forget that Pentax is the only company which offers weather sealed lenses for less than $200, and there are better (of course more expensive) ones you can upgrade to. I'm sure someone would tell you that Pentax stuff are hard to get. But this is not true anymore here in SG. We probably have the best prices for Pentax cameras/lenses in the whole world here in Singapore, and you can get pretty much every lens/camera currently in production, not to say millions of M42/PK mount lenses on second hand market. Better yet, any of these would become an IS or VR lens (in Canon/Nikon's term) when you mounted on the K-30!

And another thing I have to tell ya, we have the best photographers' community here amoung SG Pentaxians ;)

I think I'd get a few more 'likes' by typing so many words here ;p

and bro ur info really helped me alot here ! thanks so much !!!

woah woah ! thats...... ive lost my words... *jaw drop*

well, since according to my knowledge. nikon and canon are more mainstream. no offence to everyone. im still quite a beginner here.

mainstream is because anyone also buy Nikon/Canon as their first choice. Any camera is capable of producing what you want now. Is all on the choice. That is all.

thank you guys ! your informations have helped me so much more especially fengwei ! ive learned alot today ! really appreciated it ! :D

mind sharing your settings?

I used Full Auto to let the K20D computer guess-timate the settings as a start. From there and the images produced, i will manually tweak the settings based on experience till i get what i want.

When in doubt..Green Button. :D

I go with SyncGuy on this.... unless you looking for FF.... else, Pentax is the most value for $$$ if you are with APSC..... I have use Canon, Nikon... you name the model I probably handle it before...... that is how gear head I am...... but also left a big hole.... and with the situation now, I cannot go on doing this... and I have now settle for a K5.......... if I have the $$$ would I go FF, Yes, I not going to kid myself or anyone here.... I will go FF if I have the $$$... but that is another level..... till I have the moolah... that is just "dream" only.....

Any issue with Pentax?? Sure it has, it is not 100% perfect... but so is any other brand..... but the diff is.... you face with any problem, not sure about setting etc... just ask and Bro here will pop in to help you...... the good bro here has given me good advise many times....

I don't know what you mean by a mainstream camera.

If you mean "more people use it", of course Canikon have more people using those brands. Every single type of electronics will have the more dominant brands with a bigger share of the market.

More people use PC, doesn't mean it's better than Mac. It really differs from person to person and everyone should make their own assessment based on their own needs instead of blindly following the crowd.. Unless of course you want to take up photography to fit into a crowd that's using Canikon... Then nothing to say of course. :)

If making pictures are what you're into... (At least I hope so, it's photography after all, not "Canikongraphy") Then Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony, Olympus... All brands have their pros and cons. I'm not going to be a kuku like a lot of fanboys out there and say Pentax is going to be THE ONE for you. But I think without a doubt we can all safely say that the Pentax bodies offer the best value for money. For lenses it's debateable but if you're willing to dole out the dough, then you won't get small, compact primes with any other brand.. At least not with such a range and for DSLRs. There are cons, of course... Such as what seems to be a slightly crippled flash system and you won't get top class AF speeds that you can get in Nikon and Canon flagships. So it really depends on what you need!

Hmm... I hope I don't get blasted for this but another thing I have to say, is yes, other camps have more "modern" lens offerings that ranges from el cheapos to very expensive. But if you think logically:

1) Would you want to spend a bit of money for an el cheapo lens, and then sell and pay more to "upgrade" later on?
2) Would you actually really want to have to go through so many lens changes to get that "one"?

Coz Pentax "modern" lenses offerings might be just slightly lacking but if you look at the IQ and features of Pentax lenses, it's a no nonsense. Meaning, Pentax lenses really strike a good balance between IQ/performance of their lenses.

LBA's a painful mistress.. Pentax actually helps to curb that a lot by slightly limiting your choices. I wouldn't want to have to go through 3-4 lenses of the same FL just because I found out that the bokeh isn't nice, or bcoz no IS/VS, or bcoz it's not sharp enough.. Or bcoz it's too big... Or even bcoz it's not sharp enough. Think about it.. ;)

does it have...multiple exposure fn?

If you are meaning bracket exposures shots, yes..... ;)

i think to use a car analogy.

The nikon and canon are like the toyota and nissan, established japanese brands with good support and widely accepted.

Pentax is akin to like errrr Subaru which is also non main stream

Unique offering like boxer engine, best bang for buck of Horse power per $, all wheel drive, driver based designs.

Pentax will be like : small lens, small form factor among DSLR, WR, in build body stabilizer and generally value for money (not so similar in this aspect to subaru)

Wah, by your analogy I must be a die hard Pentax user...... I own 2 Subaru cars... kekeke.

Yes, you can AF w/ shooting videos. K-01 also can do the same.

Can k5 AF during video mode? I mean full time AF

FW u r right that K5 cannot AF when taking video. Many other dslr brands also cannot AF when taking video too. Also like most dslr u will need an external mic to get better sound recordings

i am itchy for a white....anyone want my k5?
