Hi m33rkat,
Yes, after the group left, I stayed back because I still havn't got an insect shot that I am satisfied. I shot some flowers as I like flowers and they don't move like insects so the task is not so great, although to get really good exposure and color of flowers is also no picnic.
You're one of the two guys in the pond enclosure?? Perhaps you got very good dragonfly shots?
LEW

Yea, I was the one who arrived first before my friend joined after that. Hmmm... very good dragonfly shots? Not really. It's my first macro shoot after all. I wasn't very sure how to utilise the macro lens i rented well. Though I read a bit on capturing close-ups, practically I wasn't sure how to go about capturing. Most of the shots i have turned out kinda flat, unlike the vibrant colours all of you produced. I guess that's where fill-in flash comes in? Composition-wise, I would loved to have gotten right up close with the dragonfly like my friend did. On the whole, it was a pretty interesting virgin macro shoot for me. :)

Thanks for the comment.

Elite also mention there is a WB problem of my shot..
Till now can't find what is the root cause..:dunno:

Bro, Mine also have that problem. I find setting the white balancing to flash helps to cool the colour temperature and reduce the yellowish tone.

Thanks Jacobs,

Looking forward to shoot more macro with you and the group.

jacobs, simply love your pic 1 water droplet pic

shlew , your pic 2 is nice ! :D

kenmaster , your pic 1 is sharp and nice ! as for the water droplet pic i juz forcus my lens till i can see the reflection clearly in my viewfinder b4 taking the shot ;p

peztilent , your pic 2 ( mating ) is lovely ;)

Minglink , great capture for your pic 11 and love your pic 4 too. tks for holding the leave for me , remember ? :)

Hi, Kelvinlin i do remember, hahaha.

thanks for reply. i am also on 7d and sp90 but never get so closed up and sharp. Do you use speedlite such as 580ex as your additional light source? If so, is it bounce card or something else?

I supposed the key is the raynox 250 to get closer? wont it reduce the sharpness in theory?
how much is this raynox 250 and where can i buy this?

Really enjoyed yr series.

Hi, i just bought the SP90 last Tues and bought the Raynox 250 last Thurs. I did some practise in my room using small objects. Thanks to GRyder guide on the setting i manage to get some good shoots on my first macro outing.

I did use 580EX as my main flash with bounce card. When taking small objects Raynox 250 is very useful but have to get close to get focus.

Hope this helps.

Kelvin, Great shot! Really amazed at how u manage to get that when the wind is quite strong.

MingLink, I really like this it is simple but beautiful.

Thanks for your comments. :)

You are right LEW -- need more exercise. I'm 57 years young and the backache was from bending down and moving forward and back to focus. When your back ache, the focus also suffers :( I'm looking to see if using a tripod helps. In places like Botanic Gardens thyere are so many insects, that I think I can set myself up at a spot and see if the insects come.

Do you shoot in manual exposure or use the macro program mode?

Rahman,
I agree totally with you that as one age (I'm slightly more - 65  only), shooting tiny little insects is a challenge, not only backache but weak eyesight. I have also ordered a vernier rack to assist me. Yes, I am also looking into how to adapt using tripod. Presently, I'm shooting all in hand-held manual mode, including manual focus. However, I think practicing more does help. Physically, I'm OK - no backache - thank God.
Cheers.

Really don't have the courage to post mine... I am afraid the my pictures will cause permanent serious eye damages to the viewers....:embrass:

Bro Jacobs,

I like #10. But I see that u still have not corrected the yellow cast in ur image? Did u shoot in JPEG or Raw?

I had make the comparison between mine with LEW & minglink as follow:

It's seem like not much different with the white balance..:dunno:
By the way, I shoot in both format Jpeg & Raw file.
