Hmm should i wait for a D3? with a higher MP? Is it essential to have a super high MP DSLR like Canon 1Ds MkIII? As i heard that a FF size sensor is still a no no fight against a MF size sensor with the same MP.

Saw this particular forum conversation which i got from nikonians.org on controversial whether to wait for a higher MP D3? or not.

"An interesting question is whether it will be a D3X or a D3s. One may be DX size and the other FX. I certainly hope they go for the D3s with the 20-22 MP (I recall Brian posted the exact proportional bump in MP from DX to FX at DX density). If I knew it to be FX, then the wait would seem more worthwhile. Also, the absolute quality of the images from the D3 seems pretty excellent. More MP would give me tighter crops and larger blowups, no doubt, but the higher ISO makes my 200-400 VR like an f/2, or even f/1.8, lens in terms of shutter speed, but not DOF. Heck, I think it makes it into a pretty useful sports camera, f/4 is a nice DOF for sports.

A second interesting question is price. If it's $2,000 or more and all I get are more MP, and a loss in ISO and FPS, then that may be too costly for me. If they can retain the hi-ISO performance of the D3, then I wouldn't mind nearly so much a loss in FPS. I prefer to shoot with the focus requirement for shutter release on - I can't get max out of my D200, even. (But, what's the point of numerous out of focus shots anyway? ... I know, capturing the newsworthy "moment" in world events and sports.) "

Dilemma... whether should i wait....... Pls advise:dunno:

It will probably be an X. s is for minor upgrades. Eg D2X, D2Xs, D40, D40X. H designation is a reduced MP count high speed model, eg D2H, D1H. But since D3 is already so fast, there seems to be no reason to come up with H model. I foresee the release of the X model some time late next year.

Oh Dear, Late next yr... hmm don't know can i endure till then or not. :(

It will probably be more expensive than the D3 also.. so just decide whether you prefer high MP count or high speed/high ISO. I don't think the noise will be as good as D3 because the pixel size will be smaller.

Isisaxon, So the higher the MP is the pixel size will be smaller? So which means that example 1Ds MkIII noise level control wouldn't be as good as lower end camera like 5D? Sorry need your advise.

As now i'm thinking should i go for a higher MP one? but didn't know that the higher the MP the noisier it is.

It really depends. When you try to pack more pixels into the same area, each pixel has to be smaller, right?

However, I won't discount the availability of newer architecture to try to reduce the noise. So a newer higher MP count body may still be less noisy than an old lower MP count model.

Just look at D300 samples vs D3 samples. D300 is noisier because it's packing the same number of pixels into a smaller area. But if you compare it with D200, it's still cleaner even though the D200 is just 10MP and thus would have a larger pixel size. Of course the technology is different also in this case.

According to Thom Hogan...

"...and the next shocking announcement from Nikon will come much later when the missing high-end Nikon suddenly becomes a reality. Yes, folks, the D3 is a D3 and not a D3h because there will be no D3x. It'll be better than that. And PMA 2009 seems the most likely timeframe for that, though Photokina 2008 is an outside contender."

wah liew..D3 still haven't reach consumers, another rumour starts liao..:bsmilie:

Hahaha... yep, well he does go on and say

"Hot on the heals of the D3 and D300 announcements (remember, as I write this, neither camera has actually shipped), Nikon DSLR fans are a bit over-exuberant at the moment. Personally, I'm eagerly awaiting my D3, so please let me enjoy that delivery experience before cranking up the hype on a non-yet-announced product that probably won't be announced for some time."

Nikon has been leaving Thom Hogan out of their development and production stages of DSLRs for a very very long time.

not surprised he can only speculate nowadays. quite sad.

No worries. Good thing about nikon cam is that you can almost pick up a new cam and start shooting. They retent most of the controls the same way.

In all probability late Nov if not early Dec. Should not be later than that.

The first shipment will probably be very limited.

Advisable to pre-book and pay a bomb (not that you cannot afford to :) )

Pre-book with plenty of $$$ to pay a premium is possible :)

sometimes i wonder why big companies do business like that.

just like getting a ferrari or lambo, waiting list is at least 1-2 years.

i'm really skeptical buygin first batch.

look at canon 1dmkiii,
rush to buy 1st batch, then got autofocus problems.
