haha..u r right..i believe the whole viewfinder can do focusing..since its possible during liveview..

I think even with LiveView, there is only a specific area dedicated for AF. That's from what I gather.

It is a work around but is still not as good as actual higher flash sync.

The reason is in FP mode, or high speed sync or any equilvalents, the flash power drops tremendously as the same charge has to maintain a longer duration.

Hence, when using FP mode, you get much less effective range and power than if you had a higher max flash sync to begin with.

This is not a problem actually. With FP flash mode you can set shutter speed higher then the flash sync speed, all the way up to the max shutter speed that your camera can support. FP mode is already supported on D200 (flash sync 1/250s), I'm sure it will be supported on the D3 & D300. :)

yes but must shoot in DX mode, can still shoot in FX mode if you want
and no only out in Nov 2007

u mean can choose to shoot dx mode or fx mode ah?

i love the d3 because the vertical grip is build in!:heart::heart:

can my dx lenses fit into the ff d3 without vignetting?

is the d3 available in japan now?

DX Mode = no vignetting (5 MP max), so your 17mm DX is still equal to 17*1.5 = 25.5mm
FX Mode = vignetting (12 MP max)

nikon has split the 2 markets quite clearly

1 digit = pros with FX format

and by giving the 3 digit series nearly the same specs as the 1 digit series except only in DX format
will make the D300 the top of the DX line

3 digit = semi pro

while playing catchup is the 2 digit consumer series

but in time when the cost of producing sensors goes down
we will see another reshuffle.

Just my 2¢

Yes, the camera will automatically switch to DX crop mode and shoot at 5.1mp.

No. It will only be out in Nov.

For you, my advice would be to wait for the D3X which will probably be a higher MP count. But of course at a higher price and lower frame rate.

I feel that D3 is a great body for news and sports. For general photography, you get to use the wideangle advantage of FF lenses. For sports, with a DX crop, you'll get 11fps, FoV of a lens 1.5x the focal length and still exceptionally good 5.1mp which is more than enough for magazines and newspapers.

For myself, I would prefer a FF but with the pixel density of the D2X, so that should give something like 27-28MP FX so that with DX crop I still get 12MP. ;p

there are 3 modes all together

FX, DX and a format for portraits, can fit into a 8" x 10" without cropping

when you buy, must let me try ok?

I don't think it will not allow you to do that. When you mount a DX lens it will automatically switch to DX, I hope it can allow us to manually switch to FX though... ;p Maybe there might be a firmware option for this.

AF fine tuning is going to be a great feature....

Me, me, me... I want to try also!! ;p

I think the 3 modes are only available with FF lenses.

I see.. not sure lor.. how abt third party Digital lens, does it automatically switch to DX mode too ?

Even when you have a higher flash sync, if the shutter duration is shorter than the flash duration, it's also quite useless because all the traditional flash calculations would be wrong.

honestly, the 12.1mp is a little disappointing.
was really expecting something higher.

fx, dx, aiyo!so confusing.
but nevermind, i have dx and non dx lenses.

buy ah?

the god of nikon just told me to get d3x wor....
:bsmilie:

Where got confusing? FX= Nikon's 135 format FF digital.
Get both lah! ;p I won't be able to afford either until at least a couple of years later.

D2X, D2H also mah.. I'm glad they kept the same battery.

the sad truth is...

other than the HighSpeedCrop of the D2X/s, D300 is the way to go.

Frame buffer is also higher on D2X 22 frames vs 9 frames, but I'll have to agree with that.. I'll have to look at the images before making this conclusion. ;p The high ISO is certainly something worth looking forward to.

Any details on what sensors are deployed in new D300 ?
