Is Sigma 85mm F1.4 in the market yet?

those are impressive 100% crops. no sharpening?

anyone has any idea as to how much this lens costs in Hong Kong?? I know it costs about US$899 in the states.. Wondering if it could be even cheaper in Hong Kong.

according to engrmariano a few posts ago, it's HKD7,000

Wow from all the photos this lens must be awesome. Nice bokeh, nice wide open sharpness (the AF test was done wide open yes?), and speedy pin-point AF. Wow. I'm regretting buying their 50 f1.4 a little because of this lens haha, 50 and 85 are too close so I can't have both

hey guys, i checked tincheung online shop - but it's not listed on their website. anyone knows how i can order from any other reputable shop from HK? what's the price locally...
the sigma is a dream come true for those who cannot afford the 85L, sharper wide open, at half the price :D

I was considering this Sigma 85 1.4 and the Canon 85 1.8. My purpose was to shoot panning shots of Automotives, where I need a fast focusing lens. So, end up, I bought the Canon 85 1.8 for it's focusing.

why do you need fast AF when panning???

you should be pressing the shutter when your subject is directly in front of you thus fast AF is not required...

Been eyeing this lens for quite some time... finally dropped by 2 shops -- SLR Revo & TK Foto -- in Funan over the weekend. Was quoted S$1445 cash only. I tested 3 sets -- 1 from SLR revo and 2 from TK Foto -- and had some "soft" image issue with it mounted on my Canon 40D. It appears to be a focusing issue: 1 was quite bad, the 2nd did better, and the 3rd seems good (but doesn't appear to be consistent). I had a similar issue with my Sigma 30mm before, and I had to bring it to Sigma in Bukit Merah for calibration. I thought it was troublesome so in the end, decided not to get it.

If only Canon makes one. :( Anyway, I do not mean to "spoil the party".. just a word of precaution (ie test the lens thoroughly before bringing it home).

:Later,

Very interesting indeed.. I might sell my 85L to get this instead and have some spare cash in my pocket..hmm..

Mel! Wait for me, I getting one later to test will let u mow the result :P

Some random tests that I did.

This is interesting. The circular bokeh from Sigma at 1.4 looks good compare to Canon.
Anyone can compare the bokeh between Sigma 85mm and Carl Zeiss 85mm?

Haha honestly, I still prefer the legendary 85L's bokeh, its so beautiful, i don't really like the perfectly circular shapes coming from the Sigma and personally prefer the looser ovals from the L. Still feel that its got a smoother/softer rendition as compared to the Sigma. To each its own I guess. However, given the price tag of the Sigma, i think its got some good value.

If I had a 85L i would not sell it to get the Siggy however I don't own one as i can't afford it heh.

Ouch S$1445 is quite a bit. More than I had expected at least, since its RRP is US$899. I'll probably get the 135 f2 over this since it costs less

I doubt that there is Canon EF 85mm f/1.4 , or is this very very old lens ?

I just bought this 85 f1.4 at a bargain while overseas. Grey set though.

Quick sum up:
Af is so-so. But faster than 85 1.2
Beautiful bokeh at 1.4
Handles CA relatively well
Built & coating quality much better than previous sigma
Huge piece of glass at 77mm
Smallest aperture is f16

Sounds good. Where did you get it? And how much?
