first qns.
Where did you get yr iphone from?

If from singtel then warranty from them, else try your luck elsewhere.
As you can do a search, apple doesn't repair iphone locally.

of course from singtel. and yes i dropped the phone and was willing to pay for whatever repair that they were willing to provide. But the thing is they said they don't do repairs and only do an exchange of sets at a price of 350. Anyway my damage was minor and i went home to try and fix it with a screw driver. And i did.
Also if they don't provide repair services at both places then cfm plus chop must go 3rd party HP shop?

funny right ? It's like SE saying they don't provide repair services for thier products locally.

When you buy a product "blindly" without looking into the T&C, then you only have yourself to blame.

I believe the service centre you went to in Orchard would have placed a notice somewhere to indicate that they do not service iPhones... and apparently you didn't ask either... :dunno:
If you had checked the Apple Singapore website, http://www.apple.com/asia/buy/locator/svcindex.html you would have realised that only Singtel is authorised to do replacements, as the other Apple service centres only do "Hardware Services offer: Default Apple products except iPhone." For the "normal" service centres, they don't really "repair" Apple accessories or iPods... they do replacement if covered by warranty. Out of warranty means you're outta luck.

If the service centre or even Singtel were to tell you that they could fix it, but it would cost more than $350, would you be willing to pay? Sometimes the cost of labour or even parts amounts to a lump sum.

That said, I'm still a satisfied iPhone user myself.

:)

And I'm pretty sure that no one asks when "Where can i get my <insert brand> hp fixed if i break/drop it?" when they buy that specific brand of products. Yes? No?

That said, I'm still a satisfied iPhone user myself.

Hi can you kindly state where in Singtels T & C and that link you shared, does it state that it doesn't offer repair services to the iphone?

Also I'm not looking for a replacement, just needed to unscrew and pop the chrome link back into the phone.

That said, I'm also still a satisfied iPhone user myself. Thanks.

:)

Can't really blame singapore apple service centre. This is probably made this way so that Singtel has the exclusive right on selling Iphone only.

If singapore apple service centre can do the repair, imagine how many people would get the iphone from overseas to use it here, Singtel will lose a lot of business. But judge from the way how singtel is handling such problem, it is really very sad.

not really... the only diff sg's set vs other country's set is that ours is unlocked.

so if its jailbreak sets, i doubt apple will service it.

imho, apple sg should service it.

I think there lies the problem, Singtel (nor any Telcos) have a technical team to repair HPs, it's simply not their business.

However the deal with Apple, might be a bo-pian case of after-sales support due to it's exclusiveness. That's why the consumers are stuck in between. I wonder of other countries are facing similar issues.

iirc, none of the Telcos have such capability, imagine they sell 5 brands of fones, mean they have to have 5 teams specialised, and this 5 teams will consist of specialisation of each model, which can amount to a substantial cost.

so its cheaper (cost) to just offer 7 days 1 to 1 exchange, take the part throw it back to the manufacturer for repair either refurbish or package as new, up to the manufacturer.

unless apple is going to train a group of singtel employees to repair fones, else the best still apple provide the repair.

update: One of Singtels reps called, asking about the problem after i sent a "feedback" form. Told him the problem, said he'd get back to me in 1 - 2 days.

for iphone, they only provide replacement, FOC with still under warranty, if out of warranty then its a $350 replacement charge. i think there policy is same as apple on http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/

pricing in USD

Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPhone with a new or refurbished iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.

iPhone 3G Out-of-Warranty Service
8GB & 16GB $199
Original iPhone Out-of-Warranty Service
4GB, 8GB & 16GB $199

*All fees are in US dollars and exclude applicable taxes

For example, an iPhone that has failed due to damage or liquid damage is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. However, certain damage is ineligible for OOW service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications.
