Only one CWB can be recorded and stored in the D70 at a time. So everytime you want to use another CWB, you have to set again.

Setting CWB from photos is a bit tricky as the camera needs a full frame of the colour you want to set to be accurate. Unless you are able to get a full frame of the colour you want, the CWB set with photos may not be acceptable by the camera. Maybe you can try and let us know if it is succesful.

BTW did you get the actions I sent?

hehe sorry bro forgot to reply the email...yea i got it. thanks!!!
works great!

Ark19: wah...mid jan sian liao lor

think i better prepare and go buy my cokin holders first

well i do know CP sells the 72mm R72 filter....saw quite a few even.

could get stepdown rings to go with

Hey Acronithrill Dude,

I tried the orange method, I set my WB to a orange mug. No use dude. No colour! If there really is an outing, please show me. Hopefully by then I have a 62mm R72 filter.

Cheers

Hey guys, acrylonithrill's method WORKS (to a certain extent, worth experimenting). I tried it earlier, did not set CWB with that thing but used my regular R72 CWB. Results were reasonably ok.

Hope tomorrow's weather is good, I'll shoot some shots with CWB set with that thing and let you guys know.

vortex, ark19 I think this is a good temporary solution for you guys. Maybe if results are satisfactory, can forget about waiting for the arrival of the R72 :bsmilie:

Anyone has a spare of that thing and want to donate it. I don't have a spare, else I have no where to keep my filter if I use mine. :bsmilie:

You need to use that thing, go out into the sun and set you CWB to a bright patch of grass. Doing so will let the camera's firmware know that that whatever that is recorded in the "Pre" is to turn out as white.

Try it, it'll will definitely be better than using an orange mug.

You mean the filter holder can work as a IR filter ????.
I must go and dig out some old stuff and see.

Yes, have been putting the thing in and out of the camera bag for umteen years and never realised it.

It works, but may be at a different light wavelength. It'll take some experimenting, that's why I'm praying for good weather tomorrow. Take one and hold it up against the light, you can see the effect is almost like the R72. Looks like a bit lighter red than the R72, put it over the lens on the camera you can almost compose your picture (in bright sunlight). No more "blind" shooting.

Don't know what gave acrylonithrill this crazy idea of trying with this thing, but it's one hell of a good idea.

Never have such a case for my hoya filters.... :embrass: Where to get one?

Those are the older generation type of filter cases which Hoya used previously. They have since been replaced by the newer flip type.

Some other brands of filter manufacturers may also be using this generic type of case.

Here are a few I took today.
Not fantastic (still learning)

The smaller ones done with Fuji S602
Others with Canon 20D

Hey Pablo, good work.

My opinions:

other than #1 the rest  . Just me, the colours of #1 don't work for me. I prefer IR shots where the leaves and grass are white or with a slight tint of brown.

There are only 2 pics (#2 and #3) shot with the Fuji posted, right? To me they're much better than the ones shot with the 20D (hope PandaOng don't get offended). Well at least you don't get a hot spot right in the middle of the picture, but there seems to be a little tint of colour difference near the bottom right of those shots done with the 20D.

Those are just my observations, I'm sure there are other opinions from the guys here. Generally they're

Yes, though I bought the 20D thinking it would be better at IR, I am wrong.

I do like the 20D very much and it is for more than IR of course, but I find
that because I have to use such long exposure times (with higher f stops)
there is always hot spot reguardless of lens.
Some len's are better than others, but due to shutter time with hi f stop
there is always hot spot.
I think I will concentrate more on the Fuji for IR photos.

In all honesty I think I would have been better off getting a D70.
But why go over to Nikon :bsmilie: Just kidding :bsmilie:

P.S. don't know why the yellow blotch in pic-1 (maybe the filter not on right)

Hi teerex,

I missed that, thanks for pointing it out.

You are the PS master :bsmilie:

Thanks again :)

P.S. is there more noise visable at top right though :dunno:

Not all Canon lenses exhibit hot spot problems. I find that generally, their zoom lenses tend to have hot spots to varying degrees. The best lens for IR that I have is the EF 50mm f/1.8 MK 2 which does not exhibit any hot spot whatsoever.

I'm no master, still learning day by day on how to do post processing. Did not notice the noise at the top right. Here's one with the noise reduced.

How do I know if my camera is suitable for taking infrared pictures?
