teerex,
You never cease to amaze me :bsmilie:

Too lazy to cary tripod, too lazy to CWB :bsmilie:

I envy your shoes friend :bsmilie:

That shot by the way is awesome colour wise

Thank you very much for your kind words my friend.

Sometimes I think I need a prime to shoot IR. Shooting with the 35-70 zoom at full wide of f3.3 does not seem to give me enough DOF for most of my shots. of which fix focal AF lens I should get.

I think the WB is important, slight variation and it seems to produce very different colours and tone. Also I have experience before that sometimes the exposure is just haywire 1 min OK and the next picture is totally black. I concluded that when taking IR the exposure is not to be trusted. It may also be due to very slight changes in sunlight. :dunno:

BTW teerex very nice photo

Hi IR folk,

A question to you all.

How important do you find the CWB to be :dunno:
I am starting to think it is quite important to the outcome.
As such, I think it can effect just how white the leaves etc actually get.

To this point, I am beginning to think that a new CWB needs to be done
everytime you change shot position (in reference to the sun).

Now I may be wrong in this one and I am happy to hear so ....
teerex, the shot you took up the palm tree; did you do a CWB before that shot ?

Has anyone got views on this subject :dunno:

Hi Dennis,
Sorry that I have not taken note of the camera you use, excuse me for that.

Generally... or I may say."always" I dont get black unless I don't look at my exposure settings. eg f vs time (well thats how I put it).

I do find that CWB does make a big difference to the IR colour result.

For me, the exposure is calculated for each shot.
I don't have a guru standing along side of me... I set it at what I think will be right
and then do it again and again with slight adjustments.

I guess I am patient and want to gather as much personal info I can.

As an example (now this is showing my lack of experience).. for the 3 shots I posted today
I took about 200

Trial and error... (I want GOOD not OK) and I have a long way to go yet.

Cheers

Pablo, you're coming along real fine. Your latest post is GOOD not OK. So what if you shoot 200 and get 3 good ones. It's still an achievement as far as learning on your own is concerned. Trial and error is a good teacher. Never fail to venture.

Dennis - thanks for your compliments.

Have not finished processing all the shots yet.
Here are 2 more to share.

For the color saturation and CWB thing, perhaps i could maybe share a little or blend together. Try to shoot a same frame but with 3 different CWB, R, G, and B. Then convert them into B/W, next Hue/Saturation: Colorize them into R, G and B. Then layer them up and play with opacity on each layers...

(NB: Done with TRIPOD only... sorry, no handheld for this perfectionism production method... hehehe....)

wahh...i like this one!!!!

chinese garden right?

so guys....this sunday outing still on or not?

I using D70 and only 1 lens currently can be used for IR.
Till the next filter comes in I can test with most of my other lens.

I set to P mode also the same leh, sometimes have to compensate by 1 stop sometimes up to 3 stop for the same scene.
I also notice that sometimes bright sunlight is not good and overcast is better. Not sure why. I guess that is part of the fun that you don't know the outcome and need to experiment. I guess we are all learning and I also total newbie leh. :sweatsm:

So gothic-looking. Like Zen Zi like that. Sure a :nono: for my models. :sticktong

Hi Virgo, ok what, Gothic look quite nice.
Maybe come this Sunday's outing, we can shoot each other's portrait in IR  The eyes will look very different ;)

Teerex, wah envy you, can take so many IR... can't wait for my filter to arrive ;)

teerex wah more to come right.
I notice most of my shots are not sharp  and may be due to the fact that I use auto focus and shoot blind. Do you focus first, put IR filter and adjust focus slightly due the the different focussing point of IR ?.

Hi Dennis, interesting...
For me, most of my acceptable shots are taken in bright days...
But this is y I love IR, don't know how the shots will come out at first :D

Ahhh teerex,
I became interested in IR by your shots of seat with hut.
From then you became Master me Grasshoper :)

Like you, I strive for best.
I will only be happy when I can take a shot and know before PS that it will be excellent.
I want to post a pic that will have those Guru's out there (the ones we don't see)
Sit back and go WoW.

Sorry teerex, excuse my banter....I just want to be able to sit back and think
Yes that is GOOD!
I am a harsh critic

Wow ...teerex your IR shots super...
Pablo, thanks for your link..
Now u guys r IR guru liao...

Thanx for the invitation (jio), but I can't make it this Sun. You guys go ahead, enjoy yourselves, shoot lots of nice pics and share it here. :)

Thank you all guys for your kind words. I am also learning too, that is why I try to shoot more to learn.

One setback I have is that I don't think IR shots are good with a zoom 'cos the photos will lack DOF. That's why you see my shots either have the foregournd in focus or the background in focus, not throughout. Another reason is 'cos I shoot handheld, I have to use wide open, this constitues to the lack of DOF.

Dennis - I shoot at P mode, +0.3ev. I normally look thru' the viewfinder first to compose, then put filter over the lens (not screwed on). Half press shutter for camera to focus and measure exposure for about 1/2 sec then fully depress shutter. My menu is set to AF lock only, in case I want to pre-focus, then re-compose the scene, then I'll use the AF/AE lock button.
Which Nikkor AF fixed focal lens or third party lens (f2.0 or f2.8) will give me an equivalent of a 35mm in film body for the D70.

Pablo - me no Master, I'm still Grasshopper. I'm still in the valley trying to make my journey up the mountain as far as photogrphy is concerned. We need each other to progress.
My opinion, tomcat is a master. I like his technique. Take 2 shots, one in colour one IR. Blend and process to get different colours.

Hosea - Thanks for compliments

ark - I try to shoot as much as I can, as long as time permits.

vortex - yes, Chinese Garden. I think this place is good for IR photography. Too bad Japanese Garden is closed.

Ya, let's have a firm answer for vortex. Are we on this Sunday? I'm on.
ark - we'll wait for you. Give anyone of us a call when you get there. Do you have any of our contact number? PMed you mine.

Hey guys... Talking about gothic... Why not get Cos-Play "xiao" people to be models. There's this dangerous gal out there, Jodie Tan, also in CS. She's into cosplay, can ask her for those gothic one... Then pose the models at fort canning or the cemetary...

The SBG is undergoing some major upgrade... Didn't like the looks of the place when i was there last week. You sure you guys wanna go there? :dunno:
