Hi Guys, a few questions, one by one hah :D

1. Acrylonithrill, have you shoot using R72 on your Olympus 5050 before? Mine resulted in only black and white IR images, anyway to shoot colour IR images?

2. To anyone that can answer(Tomcat or IRMan?), I think I need a slightly less opaque than R72 kind of filter, because I believe, with a less opaque filter, maybe I can get some nice colour like Teerex's images. What is the name or kind of filter made for IR and yet less opaque than R72? Available in Singapore?

I am out of action now because no filter to nicely fit my 5050z  , but going to get the hoya thing from a friend soon. Hopefully this works out. I really regret selling away my A80, although my new camera kick ass! I can shoot IR(with my 49mm R72) hand-held like Teerex's D70! But no colour lah.

I need a 62mm filter soon.....before the next BIG outing! IR Outing!

Cheers

Hey Teerex, you got yourself a very very nice series. I like the composition a lots. especially the tree shot. very very nice and pleasing to look at.

Hey hey....if you guys coming out this weekend? I cannot make it on 25th. 26th maybe can. shoot shoot.

Thanks Panda for your kind comments.

Oh ya, forgot that this will be the Christmas weekend. Many of us will not be free. Why don't we make the outing after the Christmas and New Year Season?

In the meantime, can give some thoughts on the location for the next shoot.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR

Yar Hor, Christmas this weekend.
Anyway, I'll be clearing leave from 27 to 31 so should be free throughout :D

Let's hope we have fine weather for shooting :)

Merry Christmas to All :D

So you'll have many days of shooting and experimenting with the Hoya filter casing and acrylic. Good luck with the weather.

Good weather this morning. Just came back from recce at Telok Blangah Park. Nothing much there for shooting IR, too much shade from trees covering the sunlight.

MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!! to all IR guys..
Here is a card for all of you :)
Could not catch up with the many technical postings here.. too profound for me liao. :embrass:
I might have to get a IR filter before I can join u guys for outings...have return the IR filter to IR man.

Hi Teerex and acrylonithrill, bad news on the acrylic... there's only tinted red or opaque red, nothing close to the R72 :(

Hello all!

finally i got something :sweatsm:
took these around my house this afternoon.

there seems to be some 'strange lines' in my pictures....is it flare???
would a modular hood for the cokin holder prevent it???

There is a S$20 shipping charge. Would any one want to tag along with my order? Will split the shipping charge equally. Will order most prob by tomorrow. Pls PM me if interested.

I have a Nikon CP950 which does not take IR as colourful as the 10D or 20D and can't be made to take more colourful IR no matter what filter I use. I am beginning to believe that the ability to take coloured or B&W IR is an intrinsic characteristic of the sensor used in a particular camera.

I have the Hoya R72, Ilford SX200 mounted gel filter, and the Cokin P007 IR filter. The Hoya is totally opaque while the Cokin is the least opaque (as in can-see-through) even though they are all Wratten 89B rated. The SX200 is in between in opacity.

When I used the Cokin on the 20D, i don't get the typical whitish coloured foliage in the IR images. The IR images looked like very badly exposed normal images. So that filter does not work with the 20D. From this I would infer also that using a less opaque filter that allow more visible light through might not give you a more colourful IR image, just a more poorly exposed normal image with a very heavy dark red cast.

The Ilford filter fared better with the 20D but still not as good as the Hoya filter. On top of that, the Cokin P filter holder is not light-tight. There are gaps on top, bottom and sides that could leak visible light through during the long exposures needed for the 20D resulting in badly fogged images especially in bright sunny conditions which are usually the best for IR photography. I managed to seal the gaps in the filter holder but still occasionally suffered from light leakages for some unknown reasons. These 2 filters are actually created for use with IR films in analog SLRs at short exposure times. So perhaps they would work for the D70 and other digicams which need short exposure times for IR.

So for your Oly 5050, I would recommend that you get a 62mm Hoya filter. Cathay Photo sells them at about $60 each and they do have stock, I believe.

Hi mickey, WELCOME. Your first post and it's on IR photography

Your query on your shots, they are all red. Are you using film or digital? Most of the photos you see in this thread were shot digital.

Shooting digital, you need to set a Custom White Balance (CWB) with the R72 in the camera prior to shooting. If you look at the earlier posts in this thread you will see that it has been discussed. I'll try to look up the post and let you know.
