I suppose this was made from a normal colour image? Not too bad. Does look somewhat like Kodak Ektachome EIR colour infrared slide colours. Can see examples of the kind of colour images that can be obtained with this film in an article on the Kodak Ektachrome EIR slide film here:
http://www.photographicage.com/cont...ssue_08/review_1.htm?results=review_txt_1.htm

Mine were processed from actual IR images according to the technique described here:
http://www.cocam.co.uk/CoCamWS/Infrared/INFRARED.HTM#eIR
It actually combines both a coloured image and an IR image in the post-processing process to create EIR colour scheme.

I like this technique because it can overcome 2 major problems in digital IR photography:
(1) the lack of colours in IR images taken with many P&S digicams that are capable of very fast exposure times;
(2) the wind blurring of foliage in IR images taken by DSLRs that require long exposure times

The IR images obtained are always sharp and colour-rich and looks very much like they came from the Kodak colour infrared slide film.

Another benefit if you use this technique is that there is no need to do any CWB before taking the IR image.

Hi everyone!

Am wondering what you guys would think of this IR photo:

Shot this with an old Kodak DC4800 and an "IR filter" made from unexposed developed slide film. Does it even look like an IR image?

Also, has anyone tried the R72 filter on a Canon Powershot Pro1? How are the results?

:)

Thanks vortex, Will check the ISO for you when I get back this evening. I had set my ISO to Auto and also notice the ISO flashing while taking photos so I think it will have to be higher than 200. maybe next time should set it at a higher ratings permanently to get grain.

Hi Conan, I am no expert but it looks like the WB is off.

Hi hosea, how did you get the colour on, I thought the G2 is not capable of colour IR ?. Colour is pretty good leh.

Tomcat - Thanks for sharing the technique and the link. With this technique, does it mean that 2 identical images have to be shot? 1 in colour and 1 in IR?

Vortex - all my shots at iso400. Noise was introduced into the pics during post processing to create grain effect.

Conan - The shot does not look anytning like IR. Looks more like a normal colour shot done with a red filter. Like Dennis said, WB is off. Perhaps you would like to try again, using a preset WB or a custom WB.

Yes. The camera would have to be mounted on a tripod because of this. This is not a problem for those DSLRs that need long exposure as a tripod would have to be usd anyway.

For P&S digicams that can be handheld for IR photography, this would be a scarifice to get the rich colour IR slide effect.

But like I mentioned, you do save on the need to carry out CWB in any case.

Hi Dennis, this is still MONO 'color' with tint of the same color.
but still get more than one color like what you did with the d70 shot.
I slide the channel mixer and also use the hue/saturation to get different tint of the same color. Glad you like it. ;)

Following Vortex comments on the noise in the pics. I have done some pp. Appreciate views and comments from you guys. Thanks

Hi,
I used it. It's not quite as sensitive as Kodak but close, about 820nm. Its
also a little easier to handle as you don't have to load in total darkness.
Overall its a great film and not as expensive as Kodak.

no need to load in total darkness sounds good!!!
maybe IRman has tried this film before?

To answer your question, since I set to auto iso, most of my shots are understanderbly at iso 1600, hence the noise. Maybe next time I will try a slow iso and raw so that I can play around with the WB.

Ya, SFX available in Singapore, price is $11 per roll, more ex than HIE. I tried it before but don't like the result, its not real IR film. However, it is convinient cos no need to load in total darkness and it is sharper than HIE, too sharp for me. Its a good choice for beginner, highest IR filter can be used, R72.
