Alan Photo quoted me $1020 for the k100D with kit lens, 1gb sd card and bag. might be getting soon. (:

wah, alan photo at sim lim is it? sounds gd price leh

anyway, wat u pentax folks tink i shd get?

nikon D50 or pentax K100D?

yup at SLS. the guy at cathay photo said that they've sold Zero k100ds so far haha.

anyway D70S quoted at $1150 with 2GB card. D50 was unusually out of stock at both cathay marina and alan.

anyway my thoughts up till tonight was that i'd rather get the k100d considering i won't be getting a whole armoury of lenses and accessories.. so the range of available lenses isnt such a factor for me. plus the SR in the k100d was a huge plus.

but it seems i won't be picking up DSLR photography for quite a while.. so all that thinking ended up in nothing.

sigh....I expected this...early buyers like me always pay more...
btw sls has no cathay outlet lah....either you mean alan photo or funan centre?
Are you sure the D70S is $1150?? Seems unlikely as its price is around $1800 originally. I think its more of the guy has no stock so quote you lower to give the impression he is cheap. I think $1150 is more like the price of a D50 which is pretty good considering the lowest the d50 ever went previously is $1290.

good price, i might getting soon then..

do they offer installment?

they do not...which is why I thought shriro should try to get retailers like courts or harvey norman to stock it as they offer instalment plan which is attractive to some.

Buy early enjoy early;)

also 3c device is a liability, always depreciating, just like a car:bsmilie:

haha oops. meant to reply to lim8395 that alan @ sls. also wanted to add the point tt the indian guy at cathay-marina said no k100ds sold.. guess it didn't come out clearly.

no idea why the quoted price for d70s is $1150 only, he didn't say he was out of stock for d70s.. anyway cathay quoted me their "best offer" of the comex deal @ $1788 (2 sets left). with manfrotto tripod, cf card, usb reader, cleaning kit, lcd protector, cf card wallet, UMBRELLA (?!), dry box, lowepro bag and some other random freebies.

i wish i cld have gotten the k100d..

Serious? you mean the price drop so fast? wow, that's a good price leh...

Guys, I know that there's already quite some discussions going on about what lenses shd go with our K100D, but after a Australia trip with the kit DA 18-55, even that it's good as a walk about lenses, I found myself missing my S2's tele-range sometimes.

Nevertheless, I love the camera and its responsiveness, and certainly an upgrade from my Pro-Consumer days.

The Conundrum of sticking to the current DA18 -55 and get the 55- 200mm OR
Get Sigma 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC or Tamron's 18 - 200mm?

Or guess what, should I just wait for the new Pentax lenses --> 17 - 70mm ? and always stick to Pentax :>

The K100D is indeed a very good camera. I'd've got one for myself if not waiting for the K10d :)

As to lenses, if you think 18-55 isn't enough for your purpose, the 17-70 won't satisfy you either. No much difference in coverage.

My suggestion is to go with the Pentax DA50-200, a great candid-shots lens when walking around the city, nice combo with your kit lens too.

The Tamron or Sigma 18-200 lens is an ok lens, especially when used with a tripod. But if I were you, I'd still go with two-lens solution for best optical quality. It's an SLR camera, don't be afraid of changing lenses ;)

Cheers and happy shooting.

The guys have already been saying no-no to 18-200mm and you just post an even higher zoom one for our VRed K100D??

Thanks for the information, guys...seems like everyone's for 50 - 200mm. But during travelling, like in the case of the 12 Apostles in Australia, it was so windy that I don't know if it's a good idea to change lenses there and then. Imagine the amount of dust and particles that will reside in the body regardless of how you try to change the body within the bag.

Don't you find yourself in that situation before?

haha...yes. I have the Sigma 18-200mm. Optically inferior to the Sigma APO 70-300mm that I also have right now. But you can't beat the versatility and portability. One lense to cover both wide and zoom. And as long as I do not show the pictures to guys/gals like you, then my auntie relatives will ooh and ahh on how great the shots are! :bsmilie:

Why? I doubt most here can tell the difference. ;) :bsmilie:

I guess it really depends on what you are looking for. Picture quality or portability or versatile. A one lens fit all angles sound great and you never have to change your lens. But optic quality wise, it is always not as good. *noticable*

I just bought a DA50-200mm last week and took it out to state park to test it over the weekend. The only thing I am really impress with this lens is that it is so light, compact and small. It is really a very good telephoto zoom lens to bring for travelling because its compact. Comparing apple-to-apple with zoom lenses, this lens is good on the picture quality for that price. But when comparing apple-to-orange with prime lenses, it is still far from great.

2 lenses solution seems to be a prefer choice by many. After all, the point of having a SLR is to snap better quality picture. If I am not wrong, you will probably feel that the 2 pentax lenses kit added together is lighter than the 18-200 zoom which is heavy with big filter.

Lastly, don't be afraid to change lenses. A SLR is designed and made to change lense.. I change lenses very often (hundred and one times over a trip) and even when it is drizzling.

cheerss...

I agree with what seafone said here. I myself prefer using prime lens (at least a better lens will help me to get better pictures, although it's not a must). It's fun to change lenses and use different lenses for different purposes. Normally I'd bring one lens and the Ds in my backpack all the time, but I take a different lens almost everyday ;) Singpore is quite clean comparing with most of the other countries, don't be afraid of changing lenses. An SLR camera is meant to have interchangeable lenses :D

Cheers and happy shooting.

Hey guys,

I'm selling my *istDL for the K100D cos I don't think I'll ever need to K10D. In fact the *istDL does almost everything I need from a DSLR but the anti shake and the upgrade or DIEEE mentality just keep bugging me everyday.

Spread the love will ya all? :D
