Image and sharing thread - Sigma 120-300 OS HSM Sports

haaa somehow I think it is the tripod collar that may not be sturdy enough, or perhaps the 2Xiii not tight enough with the lens. Seems ok when using 300 2.8 bare, just a little shaky when using with the TCs.

tripod and Gimbal seems solid enough to me. ok la.... not using for long exposures, just gonna use it when i wanna camp longer time at particular locations. probably gonna bring it for the F1 night race this month hehe... not sure if I can handhold the lens and camera the whole evening.

Last yr experience, F1 is not allow to use tripod

really? I just went to the press release page and seems that tripods are allowed, just not at the grandstands http://www.singaporegp.sg/media/news.php?id=84

"For the enjoyment of other spectators, do note that tripods and monopods will only be allowed in the general walkabout areas and not into the grandstands."

on a serious note,u can use a remote shutter and mirror lock up to reduce the shake.
iam also going for the F1 race..haha

wao, you guys really enjoy this lens very much. did you guys use this for walkabout shoot? lol. i still trying to chose this sigma lens over the canon 300mm f2.8 IS I. did anyone sling either of this lens and walk around?

As stated by Ricleo, the grandstands are not allowed(but sometimes they turn a blind eye).
but its allow at the walkabout area.

ic. last yr i saw they stop a lot of ppl at few turns area, esp those w many ppl

i slung it and walked around the zoo for a day hehe....tiring... built up some forearm and bicep muscles at the same time too :p

on a serious note, I have gotten used to the weight in barelens mode, or with 2X TC + 6D. with the 1DX i am still not confident of long periods of time handheld without monopod or tripod.

I used to sling and handhold it alot (previous,OS ver.) and ive walked from Venus drive carpark to treetop n back..i think that is further than a full round in Sungei Buloh. Can get tiring after a while but still can endure. The strap (OS ver.) loops under the tripod collar instead of current (S ver.) on sides of lens body. That style suits more for cross sling rather than shoulder sling of the S version's. I had it with my 1D3 attached.

Canon 300 2.8 is lighter and more a shoulder sling too. I had this with my 60D then. Very comfy for handholding. But tge body feels a bit too small to hold properly.

I also sling my 500 II with 1d3 and walk around..sometimes hand carry. But i have pulled my forearm tendon recently from helping my mum carry too many bags of groceries...so i resort to using tripod n monopod more.

Depends on which sling method u prefer...oh,if u use a neoprene strap, the weight is more comfortable.

I leave the OS on when using my tripod with a gimbal head. I find that when using this lens at 600 5.6, there is still potential for camera/lens shake when depressing the shutter button.

I remember taking moon shots @ 900mm and even one's own breath can cause vibration to occur. This is exemplified when using liveview at 10 times. I try to minimize vibration by using mirror lock-up and a remote shutter release.

Sorry, iam just KPO in this thread..lol
Anyway, if u don't really need the zoom then the prime is an excellent choice.

Another method that I did was using high FPS and fire a few frames at one time.

Sent my lens to Sigma to have a check, they confirm that the back focus have problem and calibrated. :)

so the lens has been calibrated and given back in the same day? good service.

Not accurate. They still using the old method to do calibration.
According to the engineer, I'm the first person who sent this lens for calibration and he told me he can only calibrate 2 points. He advised me to buy the usb dock to calibrate it myself.

Got my lens back, my lens back focus is off by 20, which is way off. (IM NOT SURE WHAT HE MEANS ACTUALLY).

Fire a few shots in his calibration room on his chart and everything. IQ looks good now.

Cant wait to bring it out this SUNDAY for a real test run.
But IQ looks good now,

why doesn't he use the dock to calibrate for the customer then? They have the docks ready in the office.

good to know that it is now sharp. it's still a good idea to purchase the dock, cheap at 70-80 bucks and you can calibrate the speed of AF and OS behaviour in the custom modes.

Thanks Ricleo, will get the dock soon.

Is it hard to understand how to use the dock?

I super lousy with computers.

The engineer told me i'm the first person who send this lens for calibration, he never calibrate this lens before, he never use the usb dock before.
Calibrate with the usb dock is quite time consuming, he told me he is lack of time.
