Image and sharing thread - Sigma 120-300 OS HSM Sports

Sigma has the similar 'ta' sound from earlier Canon IS lenses. I also found out that, it is important to remember to keep fingers away from zoom/focus rings when handholding.i had many miss shots because i was not careful enough.

Richard, try AF servo n see if it is very jumpy on your DX? Mine was, on my D3 but not my 60D. A big frustration when tracking. Siggy SG said must send to HQ and i am reluctant.

I have since sold it for a teleprime for 2 reasons..1) this is too heavy n short to travel with. 2) the AF also slow on the OS version for tracking.
Again,it might be that i m using older n non-pro bodies.

Comparing against 70-200 @ wide open..which is sharpest among all 3 lenses you have/had?
Tammy, Canon or Siggy?

Oh,come F1,u will have nice contrasty shots.but watch for flare from those tungsten bulbs.

I wld say canon mk2 sharpest. AF servo haven't had chance to fully test yet. Me traveling for work for 2 weeks. No chance to play with the lens nw hehe

Thank you fro the reply my frs :)

But the "Ta" sound is not from the OS. The OS working fine no sound, forgotten to mentioned, that even when i off the OS when the len stop focusing there a "ta" sound is that normal? everything else the lens working fine. the OS working, focusing fast enough. I just a bit worry that of the "ta" sound is another problem?

I bought the len RM8800 non sports version (cheap?)

Thank you

ok that's a bit odd. without OS my lens focusing is practically silent. If you are in Singapore we can meet up 2 weeks later to compare the AF/sounds, etc.

price-wise is ok if you get full warranty from Sigma MY. How much was the sports version in malaysia?

Thank you fro the reply my frs :)

Lawrence @ RM8.8 sounds cheaper than previously. I asked MS colors,it is SGD3.6 for that model.
That sound is soft or loud? I recall hearing click like sound when AF stops even when OS is off. Is that what are referring to?

Seems louder than the rest of my Canon L lens lol. I think need to go down to look for ricleo. :) thank u

sorry,it seems to me that you are confuse with OS and AF from what i read or my understanding is poor?
i was also thinking that the "Ta" sound was from OS aka IS.
OS has got nothing to do with focusing fast or slow.
Usually for Canon Lens,i hear 2 type of sound.
first is the focusing which is actually pretty soft and second is the IS motor running.
IS sounds usually happens after focus is achieved, but when i turn the IS off the sound doesn't comes on.

Below are some photos taken at Jurong Bird Park yesterday. All are taken at f2.8 to test the sharpness wide open. Pardon the amateurish standards of photographs.

Nice obelix. Any tries with TCs yet?

Yesterday was my second outing with the lens and am trying to get used to the weight. It is sure a heavy monster! I have to take multiple short breaks to rest my arms. I do have the Canon Extenders 1.4X III and 2X III. The only time I tested the lens with the extenders was shooting at my neighborhood blocks. Seems good; by my standard. Will find time to take "action" photos to test the AF using AiServo.
