Image and sharing thread - Sigma 120-300 OS HSM Sports

some 100% crops as promised. opps looks like the first 2 images were with the 1.4 TC at 420mm F4 instead of 300 2.8, remembered wrongly.

no sharpening done to the 100% crops. JPEGs shot by the 1DX with portrait picture style (somehow prefer the colors from this picture style)

Love all the shots that you took. Make me feel like getting this len as well as the extender.

The 4th crop on the mouse deer win liao lor.. 300mm at iso3200. 100% crop n I don't really notice any noise.. faints..

LOL. I was really amazed by this lens until I realised how heavy and how expensive it is.................... Good job TS!!!!!

hopefully i will have the time to do the comparisons, but so far from the images, I like the 120-300 more than the 70-200II, probably due to the longer reach.

The 120-300 is too heavy to be a replacement for the 70-200 if you need F2.8 in the 70-200 range...for me I decided that the F4IS will be sufficient for my needs in the 70-200 range.

Nice photos bro.

I agree with your views on 70-200 and thats what I have too. The Sigma 120-300 Sport and 70-200f4 IS with 5 mk3. I have only used a 1.4x TC (Kenko), gotta twy with a 2x sometime soon.

It's a bargain compared to the alternative canon or nikkor 300mm 2.8 primes that don't have the flexibility of the sigma zoom.

I paid AUD 3049 (S$35XX) for this on ebay and it is not too far from the rrp of a new canon 70-200L ii

Did you have to calibrate it before shooting or did u just use it straight out of the box ? And did u get yours locally and what was the damage like ?? cheers !

Share some pics by the sigma :) how's the performance with the kenko? I'm thinking of getting one to try stacking the canon 2x with a 1.4

price in the response before yours hehe.... 35XX from ebay, closer to 3600 after the bank CC conversion charges. No need for calibration before shooting for AF accuracy, although I already bought the sigma dock. Only thing i did was to set the custom functions 1 & 2, 1 as AF speed priority, 2 as AF accuracy priority.

Sorry random thought. Use the lens at the GG concert.. sure nose bled...
Another reason to get the lens.. ;)

well that depends on whether the security let you bring in such a bazooka of a lens!

I bought a kenko 1.4x 300pro dgx TC on the spur of the moment to try TC stacking with my 2X III canon TC. images are not too shabby. darnit... shouldn't have sold off the very same TC the last time. will post some images later at 840mm F8!

awesome! one lens to seriously consider!

as promised, some images at 840mm F8. 120-300 + 2x III canon TC + kenko 1.4 TC

full view resized followed by 100% crops
(EDIT - My bad! just realised the flat window shot was at 420 F4 when i tested the sigma + kenko combo bare. will reupload another at 840 F8 tonight)

for this 2nd shot, shooting thru so much atmosphere made the heat in the air a problem, distorting the straight lines as you can see in the 100% crop

by the way, to give you an idea of how far the subjects are, this is a shot from sometime back at about 35mm

image of the flat is the ones on the left of the floodlights over the pool, and UOB is far far away beside the lighting bolt.

Simply amazing!

Just to add a little context about the stacking of TCs.

I don't really like how the Kenko works with my setup. the Kenko TC somehow affects the metering and over exposese everything by 1-2 stops and I have to compensate EV manually when using this. Also the Kenko TC has abit of play and is not a very tight fit compared to my 2 canon TCs. Due to the slight play/gap in the TC, it is possible to move the lens/TC slightly against the camera body, and this slight movement impacts AF accuracy a little.

Very very awesome photos!
Even though I know I'll never really need a superzoom... (cos I probably only use my 70-300 only less than 10% of the time now) I am still impressed by your work!
Good job!!!

Hi,
Very impressive... even with 2x TC (or I should said Canon 2x TC III are really good).

Anyway, do you need to do any AFMA for the lens?? Was thinking of upgrading my Canon 400mm F5.6L with this one, but my 60D had no AFMA.

Have a nice day.
